Qatar's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani announced today, Wednesday, an agreement with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to double efforts to reach the second phase of the Gaza agreement, confirming that a meeting will soon be held between the mediators on this matter.
During a visit by Qatar's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister to Washington, he stated that preparations are underway with the American side to hold a meeting between the mediators next Friday to outline how to transition to the second phase of the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, which came into effect on October 10 last year.
He said there is an urgent need to move to the second phase of the agreement in Gaza, as well as "to form the Palestinian civil administration in Gaza as soon as possible".
He emphasized that his country does not want the stabilization force in Gaza, as stipulated in the UN Security Council resolution last November, to protect one party over another, as he put it.
He clarified that the stabilization force in Gaza should protect the agreement to end the war, noting that "there are many elements in the agreement to end the war in Gaza that must be completed".
He affirmed Qatar's commitment to working with the United States to protect the agreement to end the war in Gaza, noting that his talks in Washington raised the issue of violations of the ceasefire in Gaza.
Commenting on the ongoing Israeli violations of the ceasefire, Qatar's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister said that violations of the ceasefire in Gaza put the mediators in an embarrassing position, as he described.
He also confirmed that the humanitarian situation in Gaza occupied a large part of the discussions he held in Congress, where he emphasized the need to deliver aid to the sector unconditionally.
Qatar's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister warned that the current situation in Gaza exposes the agreement to danger every day.
There is an urgent need to move to the second phase of the agreement in Gaza, as well as to form the Palestinian civil administration in Gaza as soon as possible.
