The international human rights organization 'Human Rights Watch' revealed that Israeli occupation forces have targeted more than 500 schools in the Gaza Strip since the beginning of the aggression in October 2023, most of which were shelters for displaced Palestinians, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of Palestinian civilians. The organization confirmed that many of these schools were used as safe havens, yet Israeli airstrikes destroyed most of them or caused severe damage, increasing the suffering of the civilian population and leaving them without safe shelter.

The organization pointed out that Israel, with the support of the United States, has carried out hundreds of airstrikes on schools, using American munitions, without evidence of clear military targets at those locations. It confirmed that these attacks are illegal and constitute a blatant violation of international humanitarian law, as Israeli authorities have not provided any information about the targets or the measures taken to minimize civilian harm, reflecting a premeditated intent to randomly target civilian infrastructure.

In its investigations, 'Human Rights Watch' documented attacks on 'Khadija Girls' School' in Deir al-Balah and 'Zaytoun J' in the Zaytoun neighborhood, resulting in the deaths of 15 and 34 Palestinians respectively, without evidence of military targets at those sites. It confirmed that the lack of information from Israeli authorities reinforces the hypothesis that these attacks were random, which constitutes a blatant violation of international law, disrupts education, and destroys the future of Palestinian children, with long-term negative effects on the Palestinian community.
