Pictures || Gaza Strip fishermen have the opportunity to restore their rickety boats due to the prolonged blockade

Gaza - (AFP) - Mohamad Jerboua works with haste to restore a fishing boat in the Gaza port, nearly 15 years after boat repair work stopped due to Israel's ban on entering the necessary materials into the besieged Strip.

Jarbou and a team of technicians are facing a major challenge to repair dozens of rickety boats lined up on the sands of the beach west of Gaza City, showing signs of corrosion due to neglect resulting from the long blockade that began in 2007.

Israel prevents the entry of many materials into the Strip, including boat repair materials, claiming that they can be used for military purposes by the armed Palestinian factions.

The fishermen suffered greatly in order to repair their boats until the United Nations mediated with the Israeli authorities to allow the supply of fiberglass and its use in the framework of a UN-supervised workshop.

"I started working in this workshop two weeks ago," says Jarbou, who works in a team wearing blue uniforms and wearing masks. "It is a great achievement for the fishermen and for us as technicians, as it gave us a job opportunity."

The team works under the watch of security cameras mounted on a wooden pole as dust billows and the smell of pale blue paint wafts from a newly renovated boat.

Israel imposes a tight blockade on the impoverished and overcrowded Gaza Strip, which has a population of about 2.3 million people and suffers from unemployment of more than 50 percent, according to World Bank data.

Manal Al-Najjar, Coordination Officer at the United Nations Office in the Projects Unit, indicates that there are about 300 boats in Gaza that need to be repaired.

"In the beginning of 2022, intensive efforts were made by the United Nations with the Palestinian Authority and the Israeli side to help support the fishing sector," says al-Najjar, whose office handles infrastructure projects.

And she adds that "on November 13, the first batch of fiberglass was entered to repair ten boats," a task that takes two weeks to a month to complete.

"The agreement stipulates that these materials will be entered sequentially. Whenever a group of boats is repaired, a second batch of ten other boats will be entered under the supervision of the United Nations," the coordinating official explains.

The fishermen get the raw materials at nominal prices, but Al-Najjar confirms that they are of "high quality," referring to the happiness of the fishermen with the sailing of the first restored boat.

"We have nine boats, but we only have two engines. Some of our boats have been completely out of action for 8 years and they need a lot of fiberglass," says Salim Al-Assi (38 years old), who was lucky enough to be among the beneficiaries of the project, standing next to the fishing nets in the port. to fix it". About fifty of the Orontes' relatives work in the fishing profession.

He added, "Hundreds of fishermen have applied to benefit from the project, but I am afraid that it will not cover everyone."

However, Al-Najjar reassures the fishermen that "the project is continuing and aims not only to include glass panels and accessories, but also engines... We are not only talking about repairing the hull of the boat, but about introducing engines because many boats need that."

The disobedient fisherman also describes the suffering of the fishermen because they are prevented from entering the sea except for limited distances.

Israel controls the fishing area by air and sea, which it often shrinks or expands according to security concerns.

The armed factions in the Strip have fought four wars with Israel since 2008, and last August witnessed the last bloody escalation between the two sides.

Poll: Americans face a gender gap in shifting to remote work

WASHINGTON -- (Xinhua) -- Women in the United States continue to face inequality amid the shift to remote work, according to a recent report by Fortune magazine, citing a McKinsey American Opportunity Survey of 25,000 workers.

The report, released on Tuesday, said that while 61 percent of men have had the opportunity to work remotely, only 52 percent of women can say the same in the United States.

However, "this does not match what workers want," the report explained, adding that "when given the opportunity to work remotely, women tend to do so in greater numbers than men."

And he noted that "the lack of a remote option is just the latest way in which American companies fail to maintain an equal work environment for women," noting at the same time that women already receive lower wages than men.

Shereen Abu Aqleh, the last witness

Written by: Fares Habashneh

For her soul of mercy, colleague Shereen Abu Aqelah shed her pure blood.

And in a Palestinian time full of spring martyrdom. Politics and peace agreements are falling, and the martyrs are blooming a Palestinian spring with blood and faith, and their souls ascending to heaven.

The treacherous bullets of the occupation killed Shereen Abu Aqleh, her loud and bold voice, and her scandalous media message for the crimes of the Israeli occupation.

And the bullets of the occupation, and all the crimes and violations it commits, would not have been if it had not known the blood money of the dead Arab, and in the last years of the Palestinian / Israeli conflict, the enemy tried to perpetuate the policy of concealing crimes, even if the world forgets and does not see what is happening in Palestine.

Israel has become well versed in crime, murder, displacement, and the manufacture of death.. In the Israeli calendar, blood and murder are the date and title for reviving and protecting their legendary, mythical, biblical state.

The Palestinian people are besieged and steadfast, and the Palestinian cause is facing oblivion and oblivion from the Arab and international memory. Martyr Shereen Abu Aqelah was a daily witness documenting the crimes of the occupation in pictures, sounds, and words.

Abu Aqila has always been an honest transmitter and narrator of the crimes of the occupation, and her echo reached all parts of the world, and her voice and her calm and powerful words shook the consciences of the world.

“Maybe it is not easy for me to change reality, but at least I was able to convey that voice to the world,” said Al-Jazeera correspondent Sherine Abu Aqleh, after speaking about her coverage of the Israeli occupation forces’ invasion of the West Bank in 2002.

The narrators, witnesses, eyewitnesses, and documentaries of the crimes of the occupation are trying to assassinate them, hunt them down, and liquidate them, whether they are journalists, correspondents, historians, artists, drama writers, archaeologists, public opinion leaders, clerics, and activists.

Witnesses to the crimes of the occupation became scarce and became rare despite the enormity and enormity of the crime..and cameras from the Arab media became deviating from the occupied Palestinian territories and monitoring, documenting and transmitting the crimes of the occupation, and their compass deviated. .

Israel was able to isolate the Palestinian cause and cut off its news from the world, and it was able to plunge it into oblivion and erase its crimes from human memory.

Whoever kills Shreen Abu Aqila will kill another.. Seventy years ago, we bid farewell to the martyrs, and the night has long passed.. and I am certain of the truth.. as long as the martyrs fall daily, Palestine will not die and be forgotten!

What inspires hope in our souls is our deep belief in the resurrection and the resurrection.. and that all these martyrs will live on the land of Palestine one day.. Israel kills and commits crimes, besieges the Palestinians inside, and launches its deadly fire brutally, forgetting that there is room for a glimmer of life and hope. To be assassinated or surrounded by death and bullets.

Shireen, the martyr witness.. Farewell

Written by: Mukhtar Khawaja
It would have been normal coverage, a new, recurring intrusion, and Sherine's voice would come oscillating between steadfastness and tremor, steadfastness of truth, and tremor of concealed emotion, and with an accurate, clear, detailed, and objective report, every word in it telling you new information, and it might tell you an opinion or analysis that separates the context from the information. , so don't get confused.

Who taught you, Sherine, the standing of the oaks, and the language of the olives? No one can determine the truth, but it is the voice of the ancient land and the bygone nations, emitted in your voice, your letters, your standing, and your sunrise? It also appears today in the seconds that witnessed your sunset in Jenin.

A quarter of a century ago, I was a different wave on the screen, a steady, vibrating voice, an objective constant, discreet with information, and details, vibrating with emotion, like a basil bunch, a cactus plant, or an olive seedling messing with the soil, to rise and rise every time, every word, and every line. .

All the details over the course of a quarter of a century, I presented them with calculated words, not resonant, not bright in color, not specific inclination, but always clear and precise, but the chanting tells us that you are with the elderly, the widow, the old man, with the child, the boy, with the sheikh, and the priest, with The teacher and the doctor, but you conceal it. Professionalism is one thing, emotions are one thing, the truth is intended, and privacy is preserved.

It was destined that Jenin would be given the pleasant title of "Geningrad", after its long steadfastness 20 years ago in the crowds of the Al-Aqsa Intifada, its noise, its violence, and its flames. At the gates of Geningrad.

It was decided that the bullet should be fired to hit Shirin Abu Aqleh, so Guevara struck Al-Badiri, harassing Walid Al-Omari, and burning the archives of Al-Dahdouh and his comrades in Gaza was not enough, so the message must be direct.

The language of bullets in the face of words from the beginning, but the word was in the beginning, and therefore it is the one who deserves immortality, its bearers rightly deserve immortality, and whoever stands in its way will be burned, so who stands in the way of truth and truth?

Sherine concealed her case in her objectivity, so the chests of the free were the graves of secrets, and she let her words come out objectively.

Shirin flashed in the light, and the murderer will remain a prisoner of his darkness and his crime. Whoever stands in the way of truth and light will be burned, the righteous will inherit the land, and the wicked will have remorse.

The voice of truth will continue to cry out in the wilderness, supply the hungry with its bread, and the thirsty with its water, until the day of salvation of the earth comes, and the rest of the people, so that their pleasure may be complete.

The ancient story of Jenin is being repeated today, and its extension is Shirin Nasri Abu Aqleh. “Shirin Grad” is a complete city of steadfastness, starting from the momentum of Lake Tiberias, the presence of the vineyards of Galilee, passing through the strength of Acre, the stability of Jerusalem’s olives, the ancient arches of Sebastia, the depth of the Grotto of the Nativity, the elegance of the bricks of Nazareth, and the spaciousness Marj Ibn Amer, the glory of Jabal al-Tur, and the stories of Gaza and its shore. The Moscow Stock Exchange is down by 9% due to the referendums to annex Ukrainian regions to Russia

Moscow, (AFP) - The Moscow Stock Exchange fell by 9% on Tuesday, after the pro-Russian authorities announced that they would soon hold referendums on joining Russia in four regions of eastern and southern Ukraine controlled by Moscow.

Since then, the Russian Central Bank imposed strict control over transactions in the markets, especially over the currencies in circulation.

The share of the Russian giant Gazprom, which is mostly controlled by the Russian state, declined, on Tuesday, by 10.56%, against the backdrop of a new escalation between Moscow and Kiev.

American actor Jeremy Renner is "confused" after an accident in the snow

LOS ANGELES - (AFP) - American actor Jeremy Renner said he was "confused" following an accident in the snow in front of his home in Nevada.

The 50-year-old movie star was taken to hospital Sunday morning after he was injured when a snowplow he was using to remove snow rolled in front of his home.

Renner posted a picture on his Instagram account on Tuesday showing him inside a hospital and his face appears swollen, commenting, "Thank you all for all your kind messages. I'm so confused I can't write, but I send my love to all of you."

His manager, Sam Mast, explained that the actor underwent surgery. He said that Renner "is still in intensive care and his condition is delicate but stable," noting that the actor "shows improvement, is having talks, and his spirits are high."

The results of the preliminary investigation showed that there were no traces of drugs or alcohol associated with the incident, which the authorities described as a "tragic accident" during a press conference on Tuesday.

Officer Darren Balam explained that the investigation is continuing due to the "serious injuries" suffered by the actor, and it is being ascertained whether the snow plow broke down while the actor was using it.

He pointed out that the sweeper, which is of the "Bestin Poly" brand and weighs about six tons, began to roll and hit the actor while he was "trying to get back into the driver's seat" in it.

Renner, 51, has been nominated for two Oscars for his roles in "The Hurt Locker" and "The Town."
He also appeared as Clint Barton, also known as the superhero Hawkeye, in a number of Marvel films.

The US Attorney General says he "personally approved" the search warrant for Trump's home

Washington - (AFP) - US Attorney General Merrick Garland announced Thursday that he had "personally approved" the search warrant for former President Donald Trump 's Florida residence, and condemned "baseless attacks" against the FBI following the unprecedented move.

Garland did not explain the reason for the search, but stressed that there was a "probable cause" and said that he had asked the court to publish the case documents.

"I personally approved the decision to obtain the search warrant in this case," Graland said in a press conference, stressing that "the ministry does not take such a decision lightly."

The raid, which was carried out by the FBI, called for conflicting reactions in light of a sharp political division and at a time when the American billionaire is evaluating the possibility of running for the next presidential election.

Senior Republicans rushed to show support for the former president, who was not present in Mar-a-Lago when the raid was carried out.
Mike Pence, Trump's former vice president and potential 2024 challenger, expressed "deep concern" about the search of Trump's home and said it showed "partisanship" on the part of the Justice Department.

And Thursday, Dan Garland, "baseless attacks on the professionalism of FBI agents and Justice Department prosecutors."

Since his term ended, Trump remains the most divisive figure, noting that he is still very popular in the Republican Party and insists on his claim that he is the winner of the 2020 elections.

And on Wednesday, Trump appeared before New York Attorney General Letitia James, who had opened a civil investigation in 2019 involving him, his daughter Ivanka, and his son Donald Jr.

Trump remained silent during the hearing, which was held on suspicion of financial fraud in his business group.

"I declined to answer questions, in accordance with the rights and powers granted by the United States Constitution to every American citizen," he said in a statement.

A civil investigation was opened against the Trump family group following the resounding testimony that Michael Cohen, one of Trump's personal lawyers, made before Congress, revealing fraudulent valuations, up or down, of the group's assets to obtain loans, tax cuts or greater compensation from insurance companies. .

Trump is under the scrutiny of investigators due to his efforts to overturn the election results in 2020 and his suspected involvement in the attack on the Capitol in January 2021.

Hezbollah announces its support for Suleiman Franjieh's accession to the presidency in Lebanon

Beirut - (AFP) - Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah announced on Monday his party's support for former deputy and minister Suleiman Franjieh 's accession to the presidency in Lebanon, after more than four months of vacancy in the position in the country mired in an accelerating economic collapse.

"The natural candidate that we support in the presidential elections, and we consider that the specifications we take into account apply to him, is Minister Suleiman Franjieh," Nasrallah said in a speech he delivered on screen during a party celebration in honor of his party's wounded and prisoners.

Nasrallah stressed that Franjieh is a candidate supported by Hezbollah, but he is not the party's candidate, adding, "We seriously want to elect a president for the republic, and we do not want a vacuum."

This is the first time that Hezbollah, the most prominent political and military force in the country, has publicly declared its support for Franjieh's accession to the presidency, although it has been rumoring for months that it is its unannounced candidate and will work to obstruct the completion of the electoral process to ensure his success.

In 2016, former President Michel Aoun, who is considered one of the party's most prominent Christian allies, reached the presidency with the clear support of the party, after a vacancy that lasted two and a half years, and based on a political settlement between the party and its opponents.
On Monday, Nasrallah acknowledged that his party and its allies had obstructed the quorum until Aoun was elected.

Frangieh, 57, is a former deputy and minister, and is among Hezbollah's prominent allies. He is a personal friend of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. His name is often put forward as a candidate at every presidential election.

With the party announcing its support, Franjieh became the second candidate for the presidency after Representative Michel Moawad (50 years old), who announced his participation in the presidential race. Hezbollah describes him as a "challenging" candidate due to his closeness to the Americans.

Moawad and Franjieh hail from the predominantly Maronite Christian region of Zgharta in northern Lebanon. Neither of them has so far a majority that guarantees his access to parliament.

In previous sessions, Moawad won the support of many anti-Hezbollah blocs, including the Lebanese Forces, the most prominent Christian party, the Lebanese Kataeb and the Progressive Socialist Party led by Druze leader Walid Jumblatt and some independents.

Parliament has failed since the end of President Michel Aoun's term at the end of October, during the 11 sessions it held to elect a president, amid a political division between a party that supports Hezbollah and another that opposes it, and discrepancies within each team, and the presence of a number of independents.
Since January 19, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri has not set a date for a new election session.

The presidential vacancy is accompanied by legislative stagnation, while the country is led by a caretaker government with limited powers. This disrupts decision-making mechanisms at all levels, while the country has plunged since the fall of 2019 into an unprecedented economic collapse, which the World Bank ranked among the worst in the world.

The authorities have so far failed to implement reforms required by the international community to provide support in order to stop the bleeding.

The International Monetary Fund announced in April that it had reached a preliminary agreement with Lebanon on a $3 billion aid plan over four years. However, its implementation is linked to the authorities’ commitment to implement prior reforms, including the unification of exchange rates.

It will also include about 350,000 square meters of trade, work and tourism areas.

- The occupation authorities announced a new settlement plan on the lands of occupied Jerusalem, through which it seeks to continue changing the features of the Holy City and erasing its Arab-Palestinian history. Estimated at 1.2 million square metres.

Americans are heading to the elections amid an unprecedented division and an unknown future

Washington - "Jerusalem" dot com - Saeed Erekat - As the American midterm elections campaign ends at the end of Monday, November 7, and American voters who did not cast their ballots early after seven o'clock in the morning (on the eastern shore) rushed to the polls, on Tuesday November 8, the United States is looking forward to a confusing future, and it is divided in an unprecedented way, on both sides of two ideological mountains separated by a deep valley that will be difficult to bridge in the near future.

The Democrats concluded their election campaign while facing the "nightmare" scenario, as they called it, on the eve of the elections, as economic concerns cast a shadow over the issues that the party tried to make its main issues, such as the issue of abortion or the issue of American democracy, which is threatened by the far-right control of the Republican Party's agenda.

On the other hand, the Republicans feel that they are holding a happy referendum on Joe Biden's faltering presidency and the failure to tame the inflation that ate everything.

As the last hurdles to mobilize voters ended, hopes that the Democratic President's Party could use a majority to overturn the Supreme Court's veto of the right to abortion and a wave of legislative victories to head off a classic midterm defeat for the incumbent party (as is the Democratic Party) faded. President Biden faces a bleak political environment due to the highest living (inflation) in 40 years and his hopes for a quick recovery next year are clouded by growing fears of a recession.

On the eve of the election, Democrats risk losing control of the House of Representatives as Republicans increasingly hope for a majority, not only in the 435-member House but also in the 100-member Senate, which would put Biden under siege by Republican majority as he begins his bid for re-election and with former President Donald Trump likely preparing to announce his intention to run in the 2024 presidential election.

Some experts advise against considering the victory of the Republican Party as a foregone conclusion, especially since there is ambiguity in the sincerity or accuracy of recent opinion polls, which may mean that no one can be sure of the size of the Republican Party wave (dubbed the red wave), especially since some believe that there is still a possibility In front of the Democratic Party to hold on to the Senate even if the House of Representatives loses. Note that the manner in which each side spoke on the eve of the election, in areas defended by the Democrats, provides a clear picture of the momentum of the Republican Party.

The politically divided American nation, united only by dissatisfaction with its path, is used to using the midterm elections again and again to punish the party that wields the most power. This means that the Democrats are the most exposed this time around.

And if the president's party suffers a defeat, if not overwhelming, there will be a lot of finger-pointing by Democrats at each other about the messaging strategy that Biden has adopted on inflation, a force that negatively affects because of the holes it has created in the budgets of tens of millions of American families. .

Expectations in the House of Representatives

The current Democratic majority in the House of Representatives on the eve of the elections (8/11/22) consists of 220 members compared to 212 for the Republican Party (out of 435 and three members do not belong to any party), and experts believe that the Republicans will win 16 additional seats to become a majority of 228, which he will lose Democrats to become a minority of 204, according to the latest Pew Institute poll released last Saturday evening.

Expectations in the Senate:

The Senate currently consists of 100 members, 50 Democrats and 50 Republicans, but according to the US Constitution, the Vice President gives her vote to the Democratic Party, what it gave (and gives it a majority) and chairs all committees. And there are 35 members out of 100 running for their elections this cycle, and all that the Democrats hope is to preserve the current numbers 50 to 50 and the presidency of Vice President Camilla Harris until the end of President Biden’s term in 2024 so that he can pass some decisions.

Hot battles in the Senate:

There are four hot electoral battles in the Senate contests: First, the state of Pennsylvania in the northeastern United States, where the conservative Republican and supporter of former President Donald Trump, Mehmet Oz, who is of Turkish-Muslim descent, is competing with the deputy governor of Pennsylvania, John Fetterman, an American Jew, And the race still looks even.

In the state of Georgia, the race rages between the current senator for the Democratic Party, Raphael Warnack, who is a black priest, and between the Republican and the black American football player, Herschel Walker, who has no experience other than his adoption of conservative Republican principles no more, which made the two contestants They are so equal that it is difficult to reach decisive results after the end of the elections on Tuesday.

The third decisive state, is the state of Arizona in the American West, between the current Democratic member (former astronaut) Mark Kelly and his rival Blake Masters, who has a small percentage of his Democratic rival, according to the Republican Party's claim.

The decisive fourth state, Nevada, is between the current Democratic member, Catherine Cousteau Masto of Mexican descent, and her Republican rival, Adam Laxault, and reports indicate that they are also currently equal with the start of Tuesday's vote.

There is also a fifth semi-decisive state, New Hampshire in the northeast, where liberal Senator Maggie Hassan is competing against Republican Don Bolduc, a far-right supported by former President Trump, but she (Maggie Hassan) maintains a very slight advantage over him. Works for Maggie Hassan's rival, state governor, Chris Sununu, of Palestinian origin, whose father was John Sununu, governor of the state in the eighties of the last century before becoming chief of staff to President George H.W. Maggie Hassan.

Experts believe that President Biden's insistence, as he did last Thursday, in emphasizing the threat Trump poses to American political institutions, has not produced the desired positive results, since this essentially requires voters to prioritize the historical basis of the American political system over their most immediate economic concerns. .

This message, which resonates powerfully in Washington, D.C., where the scars of the Capitol rebellion led by former President Trump, on January 6, 2021, while important, do not concern many Americans in difficult economic conditions, where democracy seems like an esoteric concept. Far beyond the daily struggle of feeding a family and being able to afford the commute to work.

From Pennsylvania to Arizona, the return to normality after the Covid-19 nightmare that Biden promised remains elusive for many as the economic fallout from the once-in-a-century health emergency still looms large.

As night turned into day Tuesday, the difficult political environment for Democrats was revealed in a CNN/SSRS poll conducted last week, showing that about 51% of likely voters think the economy is the main issue in determining their vote, while 15% said Just that abortion is their primary issue, a finding that explains how the electoral battlefield tilts on Election Day.

US envoy: North Korea's experiments are a "mockery" of the United Nations

United Nations - (AFP) - The US envoy to the United Nations said Friday that North Korea's series of missile tests constituted a "mockery" of the Security Council, in veiled criticism of China and Russia as well.

"These members have justified the DPRK's repeated abuses and, in turn, have empowered the DPRK and made a mockery of this Council," Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield said during a Security Council session.

Seoul had announced that North Korea had launched an intercontinental ballistic missile on Thursday, but it was likely that this operation failed, amid a record barrage of missiles launched by Pyongyang within 24 hours.

In response to its northern neighbor's move, South Korea and the United States announced the extension of the joint air maneuvers between the two countries, which are the largest of their kind against the backdrop of North Korea's "recent provocations," in a position Pyongyang hastened to describe as a "wrong choice."

Also, the South Korean army announced on Friday the deployment of stealth fighters after monitoring the movement of 180 North Korean warplanes, in a new episode of rising tensions on the Korean Peninsula.

Iran: Britain's announcement of confiscating weapons smuggled in the Gulf "false allegations"

Tehran - (AFP) - Iran denied on Friday what the British and US navies announced regarding the seizure of Iranian weapons aboard a smuggling boat that was apparently heading to Yemen, describing it as "false allegations".

The Foreign Ministry accused the two Western countries of trying to divert attention from their arming of a Saudi-led coalition that has been waging a devastating campaign against the Iran-backed Houthi rebels since 2015.

"The countries that are the largest exporters of weapons and equipment to troubled regions in the world are trying to mislead world public opinion through allegations and false news," ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani said in a statement.
He added, "Countries that send weapons worth billions of dollars to an aggressor coalition and cause the killing of the Yemeni people and the destruction of their country, cannot exonerate themselves by accusing others."

"These countries, instead of pointing to the wrong place, making false allegations, and evading their responsibility in the war imposed on the defenseless and oppressed Yemeni people, must abandon their approach of searching for opportunities and realizing interests in this war," he said.

On Thursday, the British Navy announced that it had seized, on February 23, with the help of the US Navy, "Iranian" anti-tank missiles and components used in the manufacture of ballistic missiles from a boat in the Gulf waters during an attempt to smuggle them.

The boat was pursued, arrested and weapons were confiscated in an area located in southern Iran, while the smugglers, whose fate or nationalities were not clear, were trying to advance at night on a sea route usually used to smuggle weapons to Yemen, as the same source explained.

Riyadh accuses Iran of smuggling weapons to its allies in Yemen, but Tehran says its support for them is political.

The weapons seized include Iranian-made anti-tank guided missiles, similar to the Russian Kornet, and components for medium-range ballistic missiles, according to the British Navy.

For its part, the US Navy said in a statement that it provided intelligence support in the field of surveillance to the British Navy, noting that the boat was on "a route used historically to illegally smuggle weapons into Yemen."

And she added that in the past three months, seven pursuit operations by the US Navy and allied forces led to the seizure of more than 5,000 weapons, 1.6 million rounds of ammunition, 7,000 missile components, and narcotics with a market value of about $80 million.

"We will continue to work with our partners in pursuing any destabilizing activity that threatens regional maritime security and stability," said Vice Admiral Brad Cooper, commander of the US Naval Forces Central Command, the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain and the Combined Maritime Forces.

Burkina Faso announces the official end of the operations of the French force on its territory

Ouagadougou - (AFP) - Burkina Faso's army announced on Sunday the end of the operations of the French "Saber" force in the country, three weeks after the transitional government denounced the defense agreements linking the two countries, in light of the continuing jihadist violence.

The Army Staff said in a statement, "The General Staff of the Armies and the Command of the Saber Force held this Saturday, February 18, 2023, at the Bella Zagreh Camp Campus in Campoisane (on the outskirts of Ouagadougou) a ceremony in which the flags were lowered in an official end to the (French) force's operations on the territory of Burkina Faso. ".

The statement added that the ceremony was chaired by the commander of the land force in the Burkina Faso army, Colonel Adam Neireh, and the French lieutenant colonel, Louis Lucachor, representing the commander of the "Saber" force, which includes 400 members of the special forces.

He explained that "the dismantling of the remaining equipment and supplies for the Saber will be completed by a logistical team deployed for this purpose, according to a specific schedule in agreement with the General Staff of the armies," without mentioning the number of French soldiers who are still in the country.

A security source in Burkina Faso said, "A large number of the soldiers have already left."

A French army spokesman was asked about the actual departure date for the last soldiers, and he did not want to comment.

For his part, a French government source reported that French soldiers are still deployed in Burkina Faso, without specifying their number.

In a letter dated January 18, the government of Burkina Faso denounced the agreement related to the status of French forces in the country, and gave them a month to leave, which was confirmed by Paris a few days later.

Algeria opposes the European Union's decision to set a ceiling for gas prices

Algeria - (AFP) - Algeria, one of the most important gas exporters in the world, confirmed on Tuesday that it opposes the European Union's decision to set a ceiling for natural gas prices at 180 euros per megawatt hour, and Energy Minister Mohamed Arkab considered that "energy markets must remain free."

Arkab said on the sidelines of the Algerian-German Energy Day that "Algeria does not support the idea of capping prices, whatever the circumstances," adding that "energy markets must remain free to continue the achievements and investments in the source," as reported by the APS.

"We have agreements with our partners in Europe to supply them with energy, especially natural gas. Algeria is a reliable and safe supplier for Europe, and we are in full agreement with our European partners regarding long-term prices," he added.

Arkab spoke in the presence of the Minister Delegate at the German Ministry of Economy and Climate Protection, Franziska Brantner, noting that Berlin initially opposed the European Union's decision, fearing that the decision would push natural gas supplies towards more profitable markets in Asia.

But Germany finally voted in favor of the decision taken by the energy ministers of the European Union on Monday, after discussion and response among member states on this issue that lasted four months.

Arkab explained that "open, transparent, unrestricted and non-discriminatory gas markets are more than a necessity, as the development of investments depends on transparent and non-discriminatory legal frameworks supported by clear energy, financial and environmental policies in gas-consuming and transit countries."

He warned that the oil and gas industry "will be affected by the legislative changes introduced by the European Union," referring to carbon neutrality, which among its commitments is to reduce oil and gas use by 60 and 70 percent, respectively, by 2050 compared to 2019 levels.

Gas prices rose significantly after the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, reaching about 340 euros per megawatt hour in the summer.

Bolsonaro's supporters remove most of the roadblocks they erected in Brazil

Sao Paulo - (AFP) - Demonstrators who refuse to accept the defeat of far-right Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro in the elections removed most of the roadblocks they had erected, while dozens of demonstrators continued Friday to protest in front of army barracks.

The latest Federal Highway Police tally showed that there were only 11 roadblocks in five of the 27 states, and none were blocking vehicular traffic entirely. Since Jair Bolsonaro was defeated by left-wing ex-president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in Sunday's presidential elections, police have counted no fewer than 954 roadblocks across the vast country.

The protest movement began to subside on Wednesday after the outgoing president called on his supporters to "open the roads".

The Sao Paulo Stock Exchange index, "Ibovespa", ended the session up 1.08 percent, after jumping more than 2 percent at the opening, on the back of the improvement in the political and social climate.

But Bolsonaro described the demonstrations in front of the barracks and other places of the military command as "legitimate", and tens of thousands of people participated in them on Wednesday in 12 Brazilian cities. The far-right demonstrators demanded the army intervene to prevent Lula from returning to power for a third term after he led the country from 2003 to 2010.

About a hundred people continued to protest Friday in front of the army headquarters in Brasilia, and about thirty in Sao Paulo, according to AFP correspondents. In Rio de Janeiro, the demonstrators left the square in front of the local military command.

President Bolsonaro did not explicitly concede his defeat and did not congratulate Lula on his election, but promised to "respect the constitution".

In addition, Vice President-elect Geraldo Alcmene considered the first meeting he held Thursday with members of Bolsonaro's government "very positive" to prepare for the transition until the inauguration of Luis Inacio Lula da Silva on January 1 in the capital, Brasilia.

Washington - "Jerusalem" dot com - Saeed Erekat - The Central Committee of the World Council of Churches said, " The Israeli occupation continues its practices of oppression of the Palestinians, which contradict the standards of equality in human dignity and human rights for the Palestinians, while the response of the international community continues to reflect blatant double standards.”

Extremists, and the threat of forced displacement that has begun in many Palestinian communities in the West Bank.

The statement also referred to "the lack of accountability of the Israeli army personnel who are likely to be responsible for the killing of journalist Sherine Abu Akle," contradicting "Israel's response to the recent attacks on Israelis, in which Palestinians responsible for such attacks were killed, their homes demolished and their families displaced."

In addition to calling on the Israeli government and authorities to "ensure equal human rights for all persons under their responsibility, and to ensure accountability for attacks and abuses against Palestinians, against holy sites, churches, Christian communities, Muslims, and other groups...., the Central Committee appealed to the international community to "speak out against The looming evictions in Masafer Yatta and other threats to displace Palestinian communities in the Occupied Territories.

The invitation of Dr. Al-Tamimi during a closing workshop for national consultations in preparation for the Stockholm +50 Conference, which was held in the A.M. Perhaps the control of water sources and natural resources, especially in areas called C, the confiscation and leveling of lands, the establishment of settlements and camps, the seizure of natural reserves, the smuggling of waste to the lands of the State of Palestine and many other violations, all of which impede the Palestinian progress towards achieving environmental goals and advancing reality. environmental.

Copa America: CONMEBOL finds its goal in Brazil after the withdrawal of Colombia and Argentina
