Israeli government approves a plan to increase the number of settlers in the occupied Golan

Today, Sunday, the Israeli occupation government approved a plan submitted by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to promote "colonial growth" in the occupied Golan Heights settlements, with a budget of more than 40 million shekels.

A statement issued by the Israeli occupation government said that the plan comes in light of "security developments and the new front with Syria," and aims to double the number of settlers in the occupied Syrian Golan.

The decision, which was unanimously approved by the occupation government, coincides with Israel's escalation of its aggressive attacks on Syria.

The statement said that the plan includes "funding projects in the fields of education and renewable energy, in addition to establishing a student village and programs to support the regional council in the Golan to absorb new settlers."

It is noteworthy that the Israeli occupation forces penetrated, a few days ago, several kilometers into the Syrian Golan, and took control of the Syrian Mount Hermon military site. The Israeli Ministerial Council for Political and Security Affairs (the Cabinet) also unanimously approved the decision to occupy the Syrian Mount Hermon in the liberated Golan, while proceeding with the establishment of the “buffer zone.”

Israel closes Dublin embassy over 'hostile policies', opens new one in Moldova

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar announced on Sunday that Israel has decided to close its embassy in the Irish capital, Dublin, and open a new embassy in the Moldovan capital, Chisinau, by 2025, in a move he described as "reordering Israel's diplomatic priorities."

Sa'ar attributed the decision to close the Israeli embassy in Dublin to what he described as "anti-Israel policies" that he claimed the Irish government was adopting, considering that "Ireland has crossed all red lines in its dealings with Israel."

Sa'ar noted, in a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry, that Ireland had "unilaterally recognized the Palestinian state" and recently announced its joining of South Africa's lawsuit at the International Court of Justice, in which Israel is accused of committing genocide in the Gaza Strip.

Sa'ar described Ireland's policies as "anti-Semitic and based on delegitimizing and demonizing Israel," noting that the decision to close the embassy came in response to these positions, and that Israel would redirect its resources to strengthening relations with countries seeking to expand their cooperation with Israel.

In return, Sa'ar announced the opening of a new Israeli embassy in Moldova, explaining that relations between Israel and Moldova are "friendly," with a mutual desire to expand and deepen cooperation between the two sides. He noted that Moldova has already opened an embassy in Israel, and that it is time for Israel to open its own embassy in Chisinau.

The Israeli Foreign Minister explained that he had informed his Moldovan counterpart, Mihai Popsoy, of the decision, noting that the embassy would open in 2025. Saar also instructed the Director General of the Israeli Foreign Ministry to search for a suitable location for the embassy and to begin the process of selecting an Israeli ambassador to Moldova.

Sa'ar stressed that Israel will restructure its diplomatic representation in line with its political and diplomatic priorities.

He said: "There are countries that want to strengthen their relations with Israel, but there are no Israeli embassies in them yet. We will work to adapt the Israeli diplomatic system to suit the positions of these countries and their actions towards Israel in the political arena."

Wang Yi clarifies the Chinese side's vision on the current situation in Syria

On December 13, 2024, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Foreign Minister, and Badr Abdel Aty, Egyptian Foreign Minister, held a joint press conference after the strategic dialogue between the two foreign ministers.

In response to a reporter's question on China's view on the current situation in Syria, Wang Yi said that China is following the recent severe unrest in Syria with great interest. China has long adhered to the policy of friendship and cooperation towards Syria, has not interfered in Syria's internal affairs, and respects the choice of the Syrian people. We support the early realization of peace in Syria, the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2254, the advancement of the national political process in accordance with the principle of "the leadership and ownership of the Syrian people", and the development of a reconstruction plan in line with the will of the people through inclusive dialogue. Syria should firmly reject terrorism and extremist forces in the future in whatever form. The international community should seriously safeguard Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity, respect Syria's ethnic and religious traditions, and let the Syrian people make decisions independently. Countries around the world should jointly extend a helping hand to Syria, and push for the lifting of the unilateral and illegal sanctions imposed on Syria for years, in order to alleviate the grave humanitarian situation in Syria.

Wang Yi explains China's view on current unrest in Middle East

On December 13, 2024, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Foreign Minister, held a joint press conference with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aty and answered questions.

In response to the question of China's view on the recurrence of conflicts in the Middle East, Wang Yi said that since the outbreak of the conflict in Gaza, no crisis has ended before another crisis erupted in the Middle East. The tensions between Palestine and Israel, Lebanon and Israel, Iran and Israel, and the Red Sea have been escalating in succession, even the sudden changes in the situation in Syria recently. The endless turmoil and recurrence of conflicts in the Middle East have left serious impacts on international peace and security. Where will the Middle East go in the future? This is a question that Middle Eastern countries must first answer. It is also a matter that the international community must seriously reflect on and learn from. In the face of the chaotic situation in the Middle East, the Chinese side believes that:

The immediate concern is to achieve a ceasefire, prevent violence and alleviate the humanitarian crisis. All UN Security Council resolutions must be adhered to, actions that could escalate the regional situation must be stopped, and new obstacles to the ceasefire must be avoided. The humanitarian issue must not be politicized again, and civilian lives must not be a bargaining chip. The international community must fulfill its obligations under international humanitarian law, help the region improve the humanitarian situation, alleviate the suffering of the people of the Middle East, and prevent a new wave of refugees, in particular in Syria.

The fundamental way out is to adhere to a political solution and resume dialogue and negotiations. Violence does not create security, and force does not create peace. The UN Security Council should take its responsibility for maintaining security and stability in the Middle East seriously, and all members of the UN Security Council should make positive contributions in this regard, instead of making things worse and increasing chaos. The well-being of the people of the countries in the region and the security and stability of the region should be given priority. Efforts should be continued in dialogue and consultation, the momentum of reconciliation in the region brought about by the resumption of diplomatic relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran should be maintained, differences should be resolved through tolerance, mutual trust should be enhanced through cooperation, and a new and sustainable security framework in the Middle East should be built on the basis of consensus on taking into account the concerns of others. The Palestinian issue should not be marginalized again, and the situation in Syria should not be disintegrated.

The basic principle is to uphold the independence of the future and avoid external interference. The Middle East belongs to its people, and the people of the Middle East should have firmly taken control of the future of their countries into their own hands long ago. The Middle East has long been affected by the conflicts between major countries, and has even become a victim of geopolitical conflicts. This historical injustice cannot continue. The international community should seriously respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of countries in the region, and help them resolve disputes and conflicts based on the nature of the matter and international justice and fairness, instead of making decisions for them. The situation cannot be constantly inflamed, let alone seize the fire for the purpose of plunder.

Wang Yi stressed that stability is a prerequisite for development, and development is a driving force for stability. We hope that Middle Eastern countries will bury old grudges, resolve their disputes, and truly unite as brothers and sisters in one family. We hope that these countries will achieve comprehensive peace and development in the Middle East, and work together to preserve and build the Middle East as their own homeland. In this process, China, as a sincere friend of all Middle Eastern countries, will continue to advocate peace and stability, promote development and prosperity, and support unity and independence in the Middle East, and will remain a reliable partner of Middle Eastern countries in the long term.

Warning of an environmental disaster due to the accumulation of martyrs' bodies in the streets of the Gaza Strip

The director of the Medical Relief Organization in the Gaza Strip, Mohammed Abu Afash, warned today, Sunday, of the occurrence of a "serious environmental disaster" due to the accumulation of bodies of Palestinian deaths in the streets, as a result of the ongoing Israeli genocide in the Gaza Strip.

Abu Afash added, in a press statement, that there are large numbers of dead bodies in the streets that cannot be reached, noting that "stray dogs and cats are devouring the piled-up bodies, which portends a serious environmental disaster."

Regarding the shortage of medical personnel and supplies, Abu Afash pointed out that there are no surgeons to perform difficult operations on the wounded, due to the Israeli army’s repeated targeting of hospitals and medical personnel and not allowing doctors to reach northern Gaza.

He explained that the World Health Organization was able to bring in a very small amount of fuel and medical supplies and was able to transfer only 6 wounded people from Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahia to Gaza City.

The health system in the Gaza Strip, especially in the north, is witnessing a tragic reality as a result of Israel targeting hospitals and putting them out of service, its siege imposed on the Strip, preventing the entry of medicines and health supplies, and stopping the movement of patients and the wounded to leave the Strip for treatment.

In its latest statistical report, the Ministry of Health in Gaza announced yesterday, Saturday, that the number of victims and wounded as a result of the ongoing Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, which has entered its 436th day, continues to rise catastrophically.

It added that there are a number of victims still under the rubble and on the streets, as ambulance and civil defense crews are unable to reach them due to the ongoing shelling and the lack of appropriate security conditions.

It pointed out that the total number of victims of the war of extermination waged by Israel on the Gaza Strip since October 7 has risen to 44,930 dead, in addition to 106,624 injuries.

Blinken: Hamas must realize it is time to make a deal

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that the only thing that can change the current tragic situation in Gaza is a ceasefire.

“With regard to Gaza, as I said, I think the most important thing that can happen to change the reality on the ground for the children, women and men who are still caught up in this conflict that Hamas started many months ago is to reach a ceasefire and return the prisoners,” Blinken said at a press conference in Jordan following his meeting with a number of Arab foreign ministers in the Jordanian port of Aqaba, in response to a question about the continuation of the brutal war on Gaza, with no end in sight, and how the catastrophic suffering of ordinary Palestinian citizens who are paying a heavy price every day can be ended.

"This is the only thing that can fundamentally change what is happening in Gaza, and that is why we are all working so hard to achieve it," Blinken added.

"This has been the focus of my efforts and the efforts of my colleagues over the past few days - Jake Sullivan, Brett McGurk, Bill Burns, and others. This is what will make the biggest difference. This is the moment to finally get this deal done," the US Secretary of State said.

US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan reported that there was progress in reaching a prisoner exchange deal in the Gaza Strip, indicating that it was close to being achieved.

Sullivan added in statements to Channel 13 that the priority is to return the Israeli detainees and reach a ceasefire in Gaza, stressing that he cannot confirm whether this will happen or not in the next few weeks, but he confirmed his determination to achieve this.

“For Hamas, as I’ve said before, no one is coming to their rescue; they’re not going to get the broader war that they’ve long sought — whether it’s with Hezbollah attacking Israel, or Iran, or the many groups that are affiliated with Iran, that’s not going to happen,” Blinken said, suggesting that Hamas must realize that the balance of power has shifted not in its favor.

“I think one of the reasons they have re-engaged in a more positive way over the last two weeks reflects that,” he added. “Israel, as I said, has long ago achieved its basic military objectives necessary to help ensure that the events of October 7th are not repeated,” he said, emphasizing the need to “dismantle the Hamas military organization and deal with the leaders responsible for the events of October 7th. So this is the moment to put an end to these events, to put an end to them in a way that brings the hostages home and ultimately alleviates the suffering of the people who have suffered and continue to suffer every day.”

On the humanitarian aid to Gaza that Israel is blocking from entering the stricken Gaza Strip, Blinken said: “We continue to redouble our efforts to get aid to those in need. While there is much more to be done, in recent days we have seen again a significant increase in the number of trucks carrying aid to hundreds of trucks. We have sent a UN mission to northern Gaza, which is very important so that we can get a look at what is happening there. So as we try to get a ceasefire agreement done, we continue to push and push for more aid to get to those in need.”

Middle East where to?

op-ed - Al-Quds dot com

op-ed - Al-Quds dot com

Opinion Writer

After the state of turmoil and tension caused by the Arab Spring revolutions and the feeling of panic and fear in Israel of the repercussions of the large popular protests that swept through many political regimes friendly to and loyal to the West and Israel, and with the fear that the fever of these protests and unrest would spread to other countries governed by revolutionary and popular regimes hostile to and hating the existence of Israel, which felt that it would be just an island in a sea of hatred for its illegitimate existence and its racist policies hostile to the Palestinians and everything Arab, some Israeli analysts and military experts called on their successive governments to prepare to fight long-term battles on several fronts, especially since the Iranian and Turkish roles began to spread strongly in the Middle East, at the expense of the flabbiness of a number of Arab regimes, with a noticeable and relative absence of the Israeli role.

Israel did not accept life in an Arab world dominated by democracy and governed by systems independent of the major powers that dictate their internal and external policies. Hence, Israel decided, with the support of the United States, to adopt an approach of hostility to the Arab Spring. It returned with its diabolical attempts that did not subside and confirmed its role, which is considered a nightmare that threatens regional and global peace and stability, because Israel begrudges the Arab peoples and citizens their right to live in free and democratic homelands, with dignity and respect for their rights.

Among the studies of Israeli analysts is one by one of the most prominent Israeli analysts and academics in the field of international relations and strategic studies. We are not exaggerating if we say that his studies and articles reflect the official Israeli vision. He is Professor Ephraim Inbar, Professor of Political Science at Bar-Ilan University in Israel. He predicted that the absence of a liberal democratic political culture makes it likely that these mass protests seeking to achieve political change or democracy will fail and go down the drain. He predicted instead that the current regimes will remain in power or be replaced by new dictatorships, moderate or extremist. This is what happened and things began to recede, after leaving a wide-ranging impact on the region.

Anbar expected that Israel would regain its role as a strong state, with the Arab regimes fearing internal problems. The Israeli deterrent force returned in the war on Gaza and Lebanon, and in demarcating the Syrian scene and violating the dignity of Arab countries, with clear American support, as the United States succeeded in restoring its influential and pressuring position in the Middle East, which is what the results of the current war produced.

The Arab revolutions were mostly a mirage and an illusion, and the real action rejecting Israel’s role in the region as an occupying entity came from the Palestinian resistance, and from free Arab activists in some countries. Israel and the United States did not like the matter, so Israel launched a war of extermination on the Gaza Strip, attacked Lebanon with a lightning war, and now it is occupying parts of Syria, to prove that its approach does not recognize peace at all, but rather racism, occupation, and hatred for Arabs and Palestinians. It unleashed its various apparatuses to assassinate Palestinian and Arab symbols, to sit these days on the fence to hear the noise it is feeding in Syria, and seeks to transfer it to other countries in order to weaken the Iranian role in the region, and this is what actually happened, and to continue with clear American support to demarcate a new Middle East in which some Arab leaders, their regimes, and their countries participate, while acknowledging the existence of a complex situation in the Arab world. Despite this, the weak and appeased countries went to strengthen their relations with Israel behind the scenes for fear of the expansion of the Iranian role, which Israel decided to confront in parallel with its confrontation For the roles of Hamas and Hezbollah.

The Middle East scene that Israel and the United States are drawing is one of the most dangerous projects facing the region, and it is linked to the inevitability of Israel’s traditional military superiority, which does not want to see Arab voices or heads raised, so it went to destroy Lebanon, the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, and eliminated 85 percent of Syria’s military capabilities, after it increased its defense spending, and exploited American investments and privileges. When Anbar went to analyze the situation 13 years ago, with the necessity of protecting what Israel calls its borders, it has succeeded beyond that these days, as it has expanded its borders and violated the sovereignty of countries in the region, and it seems that it will continue its occupation for a long time, and this reflects Israeli behavior that depends on the policy of occupation.

Anbar advised Israel to strengthen its partnership with the United States, and thus it gained satanic American support, which is currently causing a scene of drawing a new Middle East on the American-Israeli mood. The Arab and neighboring countries must pay attention to the possibility of igniting a new front of tension and problems, because that is an Israeli-American goal par excellence, and today they are professionals at fabricating hatred and aggression against the Arabs and Palestinians, who must be aware and vigilant of Western efforts to distort the Arab and Palestinian scene.

Is it part of the expected pressures? What other solutions does Trump prefer other than the "two-state solution"?

Dr. Hassan Ayoub: Trump is no longer hiding behind the slogan of the two-state solution that previous US administrations adopted in an oblique manner

Nizar Nazzal: Trump will exert great pressure on the Authority to push it to accept arrangements that serve Israeli interests

Dr. Jamal Harfoush: Despite internal divisions, the national consensus on the need to establish an independent state remains strong

Dr. Walaa Qadeem: Trump’s statements indicate the decline of America’s role in the region and its inability to impose a two-state solution

Adnan Al-Sabah: America and Israel are working to impose an alternative vision to the two-state solution that seeks to establish a fragmented self-rule into separate ghettos

US President-elect Donald Trump’s statements about the existence of alternatives to the “two-state solution” show a new vision that goes beyond the political solutions adopted by previous US administrations, moving towards public support that undermines the “two-state solution” and Israel’s dominance over Palestinian territories through policies that ignore the Palestinians’ right to establish a sovereign state.

In separate interviews with “I,” writers, political analysts, specialists, and university professors believe that the American vision, according to Trump, is to support arrangements that reduce Palestinian rights and seek to impose “solutions” that reshape the relationship between Palestinians and Israelis in the context of regional and international political changes that strengthen Israel’s position, making the idea of an independent Palestinian state almost impossible under the current circumstances.

They believe that the Palestinians are suffering from the absence of a unified political leadership capable of providing alternative strategies to confront these policies, amid warnings that the next Trump administration will exert pressure on the Palestinian Authority. All of this reflects an urgent need to reorganize the Palestinian house and unify ranks to confront the existential challenges that threaten the Palestinian cause.

A new vision eliminates the possibility of establishing a sovereign Palestinian state

Writer, political analyst and specialist in American affairs, Dr. Hassan Ayoub, believes that the concept of the two-state solution, as proposed in Donald Trump’s first presidential term, brings to mind British policies during its mandate over Palestine in the 1940s.

Ayoub explains that Britain at the time proposed a plan that discussed the future of a Palestinian state with unclear geographical or sovereign features over a period of ten years, an approach that was repeated in Trump’s policies, but in a manner that was more clearly in favor of the Israeli project.

According to Ayoub, the US administration under Trump proceeded from the assumption that Israel was now in a strong position to impose its conditions on its opponents.

He stresses that Trump is no longer hiding behind the slogan of the two-state solution that previous US administrations adopted in an oblique manner. Trump’s statements, in light of regional and international changes, along with his previous statements about the annexation of the Golan Heights and his recognition of Israeli sovereignty over them, mean that the time has come to adopt a new vision that eliminates the possibility of establishing a truly sovereign Palestinian state.

Ayoub points out that the US administration no longer sees the idea of a Palestinian state as a viable solution, but rather adopts the idea of a distorted form of state represented by the establishment of small Palestinian enclaves in the Gaza Strip connected to their counterparts in the West Bank, subject to administration similar to municipalities. These enclaves will be nothing more than gatherings that serve Israeli control and are imposed on the Palestinians as part of the so-called “two-state solution.”

Ayoub explains that one of the most prominent features of the vision of the US administration led by Trump is its acceptance of the Israeli annexation plan, which grants Israel sovereignty over areas classified as “C” in the West Bank under the Oslo Accords.

Ayoub stresses that this plan includes getting rid of a large part of the population of these areas by deporting them or forcing them to migrate to the Palestinian cities classified as “A” in the West Bank, which creates a new reality in which the Palestinians are confined to specific communities.

Ayoub believes that the US administration supports this vision as part of a long-term strategy that seeks to re-divide the West Bank and Gaza Strip in a manner similar to the division of Palestine in the mid-twentieth century.

He stresses that this is procrastination by the United States of America, by not supporting any realistic political solution, which allows Israel to implement its settlement plans and consolidate its presence on the ground.

Ayoub points out that the biggest problem facing the Palestinians today is the absence of a unified political leadership capable of providing alternatives to confront these plans.

Ayoub says: “The Palestinian leadership is still clinging to the concept of the two-state solution, despite its practical expiration, as Israel no longer recognizes it, and the US administration has clearly bypassed it.”

Ayoub asked: "If there is no recognition of the two-state solution by the other party and the sponsor of the peace process, what are the alternatives available to the Palestinian leadership? What options does it have to confront this reality?"

Ayoub stresses that the Palestinian leadership’s continued work within traditional frameworks reflects a weakness in vision and strategy, especially in light of the absence of unifying the Palestinian ranks and involving all national forces and factions, including Hamas and Islamic Jihad, under the umbrella of the Palestine Liberation Organization.

Ayoub stresses that this unification has become an inevitable necessity in light of the existential challenges facing the Palestinian cause.

Ayoub points out that the Palestinian leadership is still acting as if it is living in the pre-October 7, 2023 era, without any awareness of the radical changes that have occurred in the political and regional reality.

In a related context, Ayoub confirms that the Palestinian Authority is facing clear marginalization by the United States, as American officials who visit the region no longer meet with Authority officials in Ramallah, which reflects a reduction in its role and a clear disregard for its demands.

Ayoub warns that the continuation of the internal Palestinian division and the absence of a unified political leadership could lead to disastrous consequences for the future of the Palestinian cause.

Ayoub stresses that reorganizing the Palestinian house is the first step to confronting the current challenges, stressing the need to develop a comprehensive national program that confronts the Israeli-American plans and restores momentum to the Palestinian cause on the international scene.

Trump, the narcissist and arrogant, acts in a way that serves his personal goals.

Nizar Nazzal, a researcher specializing in Israeli affairs and conflict issues, expresses his skepticism about US President-elect Donald Trump having a specific vision for resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, stressing that Trump’s narcissistic and arrogant personality makes him view world leaders, including the Israeli political class, from a perspective that serves his personal goals, rather than through a comprehensive strategic vision.

Nazzal explains that Trump's statements in his interview with the American Times magazine, about his desire to avoid wars, contradict his positions in support of Israel, as he expressed his support for Jerusalem as the unified capital of Israel and the legalization of settlements in the West Bank.

Nazzal says: “When Trump talks about a solution to the Palestinian issue, what solution is he talking about? It is clear that he does not believe in the two-state solution that international legitimacy has adopted for decades and has not been implemented, and he does not seek to impose any pressure on Israel to implement such a solution. Rather, he only wants to pressure the Palestinians.”

Nazzal points out that Trump may seek arrangements aimed at reducing military escalation without offering a comprehensive political solution.

"Trump could resort to cooling the fronts, especially in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, and he might work to reduce the repeated killings by the Israeli military machine, but it is unlikely that this will lead to a political solution that the Palestinians will accept," Nazzal said.

Nazzal believes that Trump may move towards a solution that restructures the role of the Palestinian Authority in a way that reduces its powers, or brings in third parties such as Jordan to take over some tasks. According to Nazzal, “One of the proposed scenarios is to transform the Palestinian Authority into a mere large municipal administration, which means restricting it to the level of local government without any sovereign powers. These ideas are in line with an Israeli vision supported by the Trump administration to impose a solution by force on the Palestinians, without any commitment from the Israeli side.”

Nazzal confirms that there are plans that may include forming local leaderships within Palestinian population centers or even introducing Jordan as an administrative partner in some areas, within the framework of a limited self-rule model, but Nazzal stresses that these proposals will not be acceptable to the Palestinians.

Nazzal says: "The Palestinian people will not accept anything less than the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, and any solutions below this ceiling will face widespread popular rejection."

Nazzal believes that the Palestinians have already made major concessions, as they agreed to establish their state on only 22% of historical Palestine, which makes any new proposals that detract from this goal completely unacceptable.

Nazzal asserts that the US administration, under Trump's leadership, will exert great pressure on the Palestinian Authority to push it to accept arrangements that serve Israeli interests.

Nazzal says: “The Authority will face unprecedented pressures in light of the clear inability of the Arab world, which is going through a state of weakness and disintegration, as there is currently no Arab depth capable of supporting the Palestinian cause or pressuring Israel.”

Nazzal points out that this situation could lead to dangerous scenarios, including an attempt to impose new Palestinian leaderships that agree to solutions less than the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.

Nazzal says: "There are real fears that the scenario of removing the late President Yasser Arafat from the scene and replacing him with Palestinian elites who agree to settlements that do not meet the aspirations of the Palestinian people will be repeated."

Nazzal stresses that any solution imposed by force outside the framework of the two-state solution will not be acceptable on the Palestinian street.

"The Palestinian people cannot accept anything less than a fully sovereign, independent state, and will not accept any arrangements that violate their right to freedom and justice," Nazzal said.

Nazzal stresses, "Trump is not seeking a just solution, but rather implementing a purely Israeli agenda, based on reducing Palestinian rights and increasing Israeli hegemony, while any political arrangements that are not based on international legitimacy will not achieve the desired peace."

A retreat from the traditional position of America and many countries

Professor Dr. Jamal Harfoush, Professor of Scientific Research Methods and Political Studies at the University of the Academic Research Center in Brazil, confirms that the statements of US President-elect Donald Trump about the existence of “something else” other than the two-state solution reflect a retreat from the traditional position of the United States and many countries in the international community, which called for the two-state solution as the basis for a settlement between the Palestinians and the Israelis.

Harfoush explains that this statement may mean that Trump supports alternative solutions, such as solutions based on a “one-state” or “self-rule” for the Palestinians within the Israeli state, or even a type of federation or confederation between the Palestinians and the Israelis.

Harfoush believes that legally, if the intent of this statement is to find solutions that do not grant the Palestinians full sovereignty or independence, this may contradict the principle of the right of peoples to self-determination stipulated in international law.

Harfoush stresses that the Palestinian people have the right to establish their independent state in accordance with international resolutions, such as UN General Assembly Resolution 181 (which stipulates the partition of Palestine) and UN Security Council Resolution 242, which stresses Israel’s withdrawal from the occupied territories, including the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.

Harfoush asserts that any “other solution” that ignores this right could be considered a violation of international law, and raises controversy about the legitimacy of any attempt to diminish the rights of Palestinians to establish their independent state.

“If the two-state solution is not implemented, the remaining scenarios include several legally complex options, including a one-state solution (a binational state), which could involve merging Palestinians and Israelis into one state, which could raise legal issues related to equality and civil rights. If Palestinians are merged into one state without being granted equal rights, this could be considered a violation of human rights. In addition, the right to self-determination could be threatened, as Palestinians could be denied the right to establish an independent, sovereign state,” Harfoush says.

Harfoush points out that what is expected may be expanded autonomy. If the Palestinians are granted some form of autonomy without full sovereignty, this may contradict the principle of self-determination, which guarantees every people the right to establish their independent state. Autonomy may mean continued occupation or Israeli control over foreign and security policies, which constitutes a restriction on the sovereign rights of the Palestinians.

According to Harfoush, there may be another option to expand the occupation and settlement. If the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories continues, this means continuing to violate human rights, and settlement in the occupied territories is considered a violation of international law (the Geneva Conventions).

Harfoush stresses that the continuation of the occupation without a political solution threatens security and stability in the region and may lead to an escalation of tensions.

Meanwhile, Harfoush points out that there may be an option through an imposed international solution, where a solution may be imposed through decisions from the UN Security Council or the United Nations, but this requires the approval of all concerned parties.

Harfoush stresses that imposing a solution without consensus may lead to strong resistance from the affected parties and constitute a violation of national sovereignty.

Meanwhile, Harfoush asserts that the majority of the Palestinian people reject any solution beyond the two-state solution, and consider it unacceptable for legal and humanitarian reasons.

Harfoush points out that the Palestinians consider the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders to be their legitimate right recognized by international law, and any solution that does not achieve this right is considered a violation of their rights to self-determination.

Harfoush stresses that the Palestinian people reject any solution that might lead to reducing their sovereignty or merging them into one state in which they do not enjoy equal rights, especially under the Israeli occupation.

Harfoush says: “East Jerusalem is considered the capital of the Palestinian state according to international resolutions, and any solution that proposes changing the status of the city or recognizes it as the capital of Israel only is considered unacceptable to the Palestinians.”

He points out that the Palestinians reject the continuation of the occupation or any kind of solution that means the continuation of Israeli control over their lands, as solutions such as self-rule or a single state may be considered a continuation of the status quo in which they face racial discrimination and restrictions on their freedoms.

Harfoush believes that despite the internal divisions between Palestinian factions (such as Hamas and Fatah), the national consensus on the necessity of establishing an independent Palestinian state remains strong, and any solution that does not include establishing an independent Palestinian state may be considered unacceptable by most Palestinians.

According to Harfoush, Trump's statements about "something else" other than the two-state solution may mean promoting alternative solutions such as one state or self-rule, but they may conflict with the legal rights of the Palestinians.

Harfoush stresses that the remaining scenarios include several complex options, but they remain legally imperfect if they do not guarantee the Palestinians’ rights to sovereignty. For the Palestinian people, any solution that ignores their right to establish an independent state is considered unacceptable and a violation of their legitimate rights to self-determination and freedom.

Great American bias in favor of the occupying state

Commenting on the statements of US President-elect Donald Trump regarding the existence of “other options” besides the two-state solution between the Palestinians and the Israelis, writer and political researcher Dr. Walaa Qaddimat believes that these statements clearly reflect a major American bias in favor of the Israeli occupation state, and also indicate a decline in American hegemony in the international arena, as the United States is no longer the only power capable of determining the future of the region and resolving its conflicts.

Qadeem believes that this American decline in its ability to influence the settlement of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict has been reflected in particular on the two-state solution option, which was considered the basis for any peaceful settlement in the region.

Qadeemat asserts that despite the broad international support for the two-state solution, Trump’s statements represent an abandonment of this solution, opening the door to other proposals, such as the solutions supported by Israel, such as a single state or Palestinian self-rule within the framework of the occupying state.

While Qadeem believes that these statements confirm the decline of the American role in the international arena, she points out that the most prominent question that imposes itself now is: Is the United States really capable of imposing a two-state solution?

Dr. Qaddimat answers this question by pointing to the dominance of the Zionist lobby over American policy, especially at the White House level, which makes achieving this solution more difficult. The United States itself is no longer able to impose its own vision of peace due to the changes taking place in the region and the competition of other major powers, such as China and Russia, for influence in the Middle East.

Qadeemat confirms that American hegemony over the region is facing real challenges, reflecting a decline in its ability to impose the policies it previously pursued.

This decline, according to Qadeem, has weakened the United States’ ability to impose a two-state solution or even establish peace that guarantees Palestinian rights.

“While the United States was the main player in peace negotiations, today the situation has become more complicated with increasing unconditional American support for Israel, making it difficult to achieve a just settlement,” Qadeem says.

Qadimat stresses that the United States is no longer able to impose solutions under the current circumstances, as changes in the region, especially in light of political fluctuations and competition between major powers, have made it difficult for the current US administration to continue imposing its vision for a solution.

On the other hand, Qadeemat confirms that the Trump administration is following the same path that he started during his first presidential term through the Deal of the Century, and through successive statements that do not recognize the two-state solution, but rather support Israel’s expansionist positions.

Dr. Qaddimat does not rule out that Israel will continue to exploit the opportunity of events in the Middle East and the arrival of Trump to achieve its expansionist and settlement ambitions.

Qadeemat stresses that the "American proposals" will not be acceptable to the Palestinian people under any circumstances, at all levels, whether from the leadership or the Palestinian people.

Despite this widespread rejection, Qadimat asserts that the current stage and the challenges facing the region require the Palestinians to unite and cohese around their national project, which strengthens their position in the face of external pressures.

Regarding the ongoing Israeli escalation, Qaddimat stresses the importance of the Palestinians adhering to their right to establish their independent state on the 1967 borders, considering that any solution that does not include this right is unacceptable.

As for the role of the United States, Qaddimat points out that the Trump administration has weakened its ability to implement a real settlement in the region, because Israel no longer feels the need to settle with the Palestinians as long as American support continues to provide facilities and aid.

She points out that Israel is not alone in the international arena, and that there are other international powers, such as Russia and China, that can contribute to changing the balance of power in the region.

Qaddimat points out that the international system itself is witnessing changes that may lead to a reduction in American hegemony over the Middle East region, and therefore, the near future may bring rapid changes, including strengthening the Palestinian role in the international arena, and changing the balances that manage the conflict in the region.

Qadeemat asserts that the United States, despite its military and economic power, will not be able to support Israel forever in light of the geopolitical changes the world is witnessing.

The two-state solution has become unrealistic and even impossible to implement

Writer and political analyst Adnan Al-Sabah believes that the two-state solution has become unrealistic and illogical, and even impossible to implement in any case.

Al-Sabah explains that the United States and Israel are working to impose an alternative vision for the two-state solution that seeks to establish Palestinian self-rule fragmented into geographically separate ghettos, without any continuity between the areas of the West Bank or even continuous within the Gaza Strip.

He stresses that this proposal reinforces the reality of complete Israeli control over the West Bank, with the annexation of settlements and the application of Israeli law to them, which reflects the occupation’s efforts to consider the West Bank an integral part of its state.

Al-Sabah points out that the scenario proposed by the United States of America may include establishing limited self-rule for the Palestinians within the densely populated areas of the West Bank, while Israel tightens its control over the rest of the territories. As for the Gaza Strip, the plan may include transforming what remains of the Strip into isolated, geographically unconnected ghettos, and granting them self-rule, with the possibility of implementing this after eliminating the Palestinian resistance there.

On the US side, Al-Sabah confirms that it has its own ambitions in Gaza, as it seeks to control the northern part of the Strip to ensure the protection of the Ben Gurion Canal, which the occupation is planning to build, in addition to acquiring the gas fields in the region. These ambitions may also include establishing an American military base in northern Gaza to enhance American and Israeli influence in the region.

Regarding the Palestinian options, Al-Sabah stresses that the Palestinian people cannot accept any solution that detracts from their right to complete freedom on all their lands.

Al-Sabah explains that the Palestinians, as a result of political circumstances, showed a willingness to accept the establishment of a state on the 1967 borders, but this option was practically destroyed after the Oslo Accords and the subsequent settlement expansion and Judaization of the lands.

Al-Sabah expresses his conviction that the only possible solution to the Palestinian issue lies in establishing a unified democratic state on all historical Palestinian lands, within the framework of a democratic system based on equality.

Al-Sabah believes that all other solutions will remain temporary and will fail, stressing that any partial settlement will lead to repeated explosions until this radical solution is achieved.

Stockholm..!

The psychological phenomenon, not the Swedish capital, is what the title article is about. A psychological study conducted on a number of Israelis released in the one-time deal, which was concluded in the first months of the war of extermination that entered its fourteenth month, concluded that all of those released sympathized with their captors, and that they called them guards rather than captors. The study described the detainees as mentally ill with “Stockholm Syndrome,” in which the captive sympathizes with his captor and the victim with his executioner.

These results do not describe the situation, as much as they demonize the resistance and dehumanize the captors, who treated their prisoners well and provided them with food and medicine throughout their detention. Their faces said more than their tongues, to the point that one of the female broadcasters on Israeli television channels was reprimanded when she described one of the released women as being more elegant than she was.

Although the capture of children, women and the elderly was not wise, and they should have been released from the first hours of their capture, before they became a pretext that brought more loss and demonization to the people of Gaza than benefit, and caused the ignition to flare up, Netanyahu, who is crying over them, does not want to release them, as much as he seeks to invest in their survival and suffering to continue the genocide, and to prolong the life of his government, by preserving the cohesion of his partners, to achieve dreams of expansion and the desires for control carried by political and fundamentalist biblical motives.

Stop the genocide now..!

Demonstrations in front of the Israeli President's house demanding a prisoner deal

Israeli media reported that activists are demonstrating in front of the home of Israeli President Isaac Herzog in Tel Aviv, demanding a prisoner exchange deal with Palestinian factions in Gaza.

Thousands of Israelis have been demonstrating for months in Tel Aviv, demanding an urgent deal to release those held in Gaza.

Protesters often hold up signs criticizing Benjamin Netanyahu's government, holding it responsible for failing to release the detainees so far.

Several cities in Israel are witnessing demonstrations calling for a prisoner exchange deal.

Israeli media, both official and private, reported in recent days that an agreement with the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) was close to being reached, which could pave the way for a ceasefire in Gaza, without any official announcement being made.

Last week, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar claimed that Tel Aviv had an opportunity to reach a prisoner exchange agreement with Hamas that would lead to a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

In an indication of the sharp political division in Tel Aviv, Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir reiterated his rejection of a prisoner exchange agreement and a complete ceasefire in Gaza, stressing that these are "red lines" that cannot be crossed.

At the beginning of December, Hamas announced the killing of 33 Israeli prisoners who were being held by it, most of whom were killed by the Israeli occupation army’s bombing of various areas of the Gaza Strip since the start of the aggression in October 2023.

Since October 7, 2023, the Israeli occupation forces have arrested more than 12,000 Palestinians from the West Bank, including occupied Jerusalem, while there are no statistics available for prisoners arrested from Gaza.

Hamas has repeatedly confirmed its readiness to conclude a prisoner exchange and ceasefire agreement, and in May it actually agreed to a proposal put forward by US President Joe Biden, but Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu backed down and set new impossible conditions, including the continuation of the war and not withdrawing the army from Gaza.

The opposition and the families of the Israeli prisoners accuse Netanyahu of obstructing reaching an agreement, in order to preserve his position and government, as extremist ministers, including Itamar Ben-Gvir and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, threaten to withdraw from the government and bring it down if a complete end to the war is accepted.

With American support, Israel has been committing genocide in Gaza since October 7, 2023, leaving more than 151,000 Palestinian martyrs and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 11,000 missing, amid massive destruction and famine that killed dozens of children and the elderly, in one of the worst humanitarian disasters in the world.

Israel continues its massacres, ignoring two arrest warrants issued by the International Criminal Court on November 21 against Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Galant, for committing war crimes and crimes against humanity against Palestinians in Gaza.

Israel also defies the UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate end to the war, and the International Court of Justice's orders to take measures to prevent genocide and improve the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza.
