Prisoners Club: Israel has detained 291 Palestinians from Jenin this year

The Palestinian Prisoners Club said on Monday that Israeli occupation forces have detained 291 people from Jenin in 2023, around double the number from last year.

The highest figures came in January and February, the club said, when 62 people were arrested in each month.

The spike comes amid an "escalation of resistance operations and confronting the occupation," the club added.

This includes a significant increase in Palestinians detained without trial, and also includes arrests of recently-released prisoners.

Around 600 people from Jenin are currently in Israeli prisons, including including two female prisoners: Ataf Jaradat and Yasmine Shaaban. Seventy-six are serving life sentences.

The club said that longest-serving prisoner from the Jenin Governorate is Saed Al-Saadi, who has been detained since 1989.
