The media advisor for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East "UNRWA", Adnan Abu Hasna, revealed precise and dangerous details related to the humanitarian reality and the agency's operations amid the ongoing war and Israeli siege, pointing to unprecedented challenges facing the agency's work in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and occupied Jerusalem.
Abu Hasna's statements came during his phone interview on the program "Seven O'Clock News", where he presented numbers and facts about the current situation.
Abu Hasna confirmed that despite the enormous difficulties, UNRWA remains the only cohesive entity continuing to provide its services in the Gaza Strip, relying on a current workforce of 12,000 employees.
In the education sector, he explained that the agency succeeded in returning 300,000 children to the educational process, considering it the foundation amid the current circumstances. As for the health sector, new clinics were opened in Gaza City and the northern sector, bringing the number to 8 main clinics, supported by 32 fixed medical points and 108 mobile medical teams, receiving about 16,000 patients daily.
The services did not stop there, but included the environmental services sector, where UNRWA continued to collect and transport thousands of tons of solid waste weekly, in addition to distributing thousands of cups of potable and daily-use water, reaching hundreds of thousands of displaced and non-displaced people, alongside extensive psychological support operations.
Regarding the aid file, Abu Hasna revealed a surprise about the volume of detained materials, confirming that Israel is preventing the entry of food and relief materials purchased by UNRWA for hundreds of millions of dollars.
He pointed to the existence of about 6000 agency trucks currently stacked in warehouses in Jordan and Egypt, containing food materials sufficient for the Gaza sector for a full 3 months, in addition to tents and plastic sheds sufficient for 1.3 million Palestinians.
Abu Hasna warned that preventing the entry of these materials exacerbates the catastrophe in the shelter camps that are witnessing the flying and collapse of tents, and the invasion of rainwater and sewage into the displaced people's living places, confirming that the entry of these trucks is capable of making a fundamental difference in the residents' lives.
UNRWA remains the only cohesive entity continuing to provide its services in the Gaza Strip.
