Scholars and researchers participating in the Covenant for Jerusalem (Will) conference warned that the Al-Aqsa Mosque is going through the most dangerous stage in its modern history, and affirmed that the Israeli attack on its identity and religious status is increasing unprecedentedly, which requires the Islamic nation to immediately engage in defending it.
This came during a seminar entitled "Al-Aqsa: Will in the Face of Judaization," where the speakers presented a comprehensive overview of the transformations taking place in Jerusalem, and affirmed that the occupation seeks to reshape the religious and political reality in the Al-Aqsa Mosque through systematic policies based on the influence of the religious Zionist movement in government institutions.
Abdullah Marouf, Director of the Jerusalem Studies Center at 29 Mayıs University in Istanbul, explained that the rise of religious Zionism to decision-making centers has granted extremist Temple groups broad political cover, making the incursions and attacks more aggressive and clear. He pointed out that the time periods between rounds of escalation in Al-Aqsa have become shorter than ever before, turning into a continuous confrontation that moves the Palestinian street and ignites waves of resistance leading to the "Al-Aqsa Flood."
Marouf pointed out that the fierce attack for which the residents of Gaza are paying the price came as a result of defending Al-Aqsa, stressing that protecting the mosque is no longer the responsibility of the Palestinians alone, but rather a duty on the entire Islamic nation.
For his part, Dr. Nawaf Al-Takrouri, head of the Palestine Scholars Authority, affirmed that the Palestinian people will remain committed to their rights in Jerusalem, no matter the sacrifices, explaining that the occupation project goes beyond Palestine to target the entire region, which requires the nation to be aware of the seriousness of this project and to move to thwart it.
The head of the Scholars Formation Center, Muhammad Al-Hassan Ould Al-Dedew, reviewed the religious value of the Al-Aqsa Mosque since the time of Abraham, peace be upon him, stressing that venerating and protecting the mosque is a legal duty, and that attacks on it represent an insult to the Islamic nation that cannot be tolerated. He added that liberating Al-Aqsa and cleansing it from occupation is an individual obligation on everyone who is able.
The session concluded with Sheikh Abdul Hai Youssef reciting a document signed by the participating scholars, which emphasized the need to support the people of Jerusalem and strengthen those stationed there, and described normalization with the occupation as "treason against God and His Messenger." The document called on Islamic peoples to activate means of popular resistance, especially economic boycotts, and to support maritime convoys to relieve Gaza, and urged the resistance fighters to continue their steadfastness until liberation.
Protecting the Al-Aqsa Mosque is no longer the responsibility of the Palestinians alone, but a duty on the entire Islamic nation.
