Hebrew sources reported that an Israeli soldier committed suicide due to suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, as a result of his participation in the war on the besieged Gaza Strip.
A Hebrew newspaper stated that the soldier, named Nehorai Raphael Barzani, committed suicide after a struggle with a deep psychological disorder resulting from his experience in the war on Gaza.
Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been waging a genocidal war on Gaza, which has resulted in the martyrdom of more than 70,000 Palestinians and the injury of 170,000 others, most of whom are children and women.
Reports indicate a relationship between the increase in suicide cases in the ranks of the Israeli army and the devastating psychological effects of the ongoing war on Gaza.
Two months ago, the soldier who committed suicide spoke about his suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, and revealed that he spent three months outside Israel searching for appropriate treatment.
It is worth noting that there is a severe shortage in the number of psychotherapists in Israel, while the psychological rehabilitation department of the Ministry of Defense is facing increasing pressure.
In a similar incident, a 28-year-old reserve officer committed suicide after a bitter psychological struggle.
Official Israeli statistics revealed that 279 suicide attempts were recorded in the army ranks during a period of 18 months, of whom 36 soldiers died.
In conjunction with this, Israel continues to violate the ceasefire agreement, as 367 Palestinians were martyred and 953 others were injured, according to the Ministry of Health in Gaza.
Israel prevents the entry of sufficient quantities of food and medicine into Gaza, which increases the suffering of about 2.4 million Palestinians who are facing catastrophic humanitarian conditions.
A steady increase in suicide cases in the ranks of the Israeli army reflects the psychological repercussions of the war on Gaza.
