Trump: The second phase of the ceasefire in Gaza has begun.

U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday the start of the second phase of the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

In a post on the American platform "Truth Social" on Tuesday, Trump indicated that Hamas had released all twenty living Israeli prisoners, stating that they are "in good condition."

He added: "A great burden has been lifted from our shoulders, but the work is not yet finished; the dead prisoners have not yet been handed over, the second phase begins now."

Hamas released the living Israeli prisoners on Monday and handed over the bodies of four, stating that it needs time to retrieve the bodies of 24 others.

During the "Sharm El Sheikh Peace Summit" in Egypt, Trump responded to a question about when the second phase would begin, saying that the phases are interconnected and that the second phase has started.

The Sharm El Sheikh summit was held on Monday, chaired by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and Trump, at the conference center in Sharm El Sheikh, with the participation of leaders from more than 20 countries.

The Egyptian presidency stated that the "Sharm El Sheikh Peace Summit" emphasized the need to begin "consultations on ways and mechanisms to implement the upcoming phases" of U.S. President Donald Trump's plan.

The summit comes after the ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel took effect on Friday afternoon, Jerusalem time, after it was approved by the Tel Aviv government early that same day.

On October 9, Trump announced that Israel and Hamas had reached an agreement on the first phase of his ceasefire and prisoner exchange plan, following indirect negotiations between the two parties in Sharm El Sheikh, with the participation of Turkey, Egypt, and Qatar, and under U.S. supervision.

With U.S. support, Israel has committed genocide in Gaza since October 8, 2023, resulting in 67,913 deaths and 170,134 injuries, most of whom are children and women, and a famine that claimed the lives of 463 Palestinians, including 157 children.
