The Civil Defense Authority in Gaza stated on Saturday that Palestinians in the city of Gaza are facing "ethnic cleansing" amid intensified Israeli bombardment and widespread destruction targeting what remains of buildings and shelters for the displaced, as part of Tel Aviv's efforts to reoccupy the area.
It added in a statement: "The residents of the city of Gaza are currently subjected to ethnic cleansing, and the occupation has reached a level of blind madness in its bombardment of schools that shelter the displaced and residential buildings located in densely populated neighborhoods, resulting in the martyrdom of dozens of civilians and the injury of hundreds more."
It confirmed that the city of Gaza is witnessing "extensive Israeli targeting and destruction of what remains of its residential buildings, to force citizens to leave, in implementation of the occupation's policy aimed at emptying the city of its inhabitants towards what it calls the narrow humanitarian area in the southern Gaza Strip."
The Civil Defense reported that "a state of extreme panic prevails among the displaced families in the city of Gaza, in light of the absence of shelters that include the minimum requirements for security and safety."
Earlier on Saturday, the government media office stated that the Israeli army has completely destroyed 1,600 towers and residential buildings in the city of Gaza since August 11, and has severely damaged about 2,000 towers and residential buildings, in addition to destroying 13,000 tents, which has led to the displacement of more than 100,000 people who lived in those homes and tents.
The Civil Defense called on countries, humanitarian organizations, and international bodies to "intervene urgently to stop the blind Israeli madness" targeting civilians and their remaining facilities in Gaza.
On August 8, the Israeli government approved a plan proposed by its Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to gradually reoccupy the Gaza Strip entirely, starting with the city of Gaza.
The Israeli army began its attack on the city on August 11, starting with the Al-Zeitoun neighborhood (southeast), where the attack included the demolition of homes using explosive robots, artillery shelling, random gunfire, and forced displacement.
In the following weeks, the army expanded its aerial operations and policy of destroying residential neighborhoods to the Al-Sabra neighborhood in the south, then to neighborhoods in the northern part of the city and later to the west.
The areas that were subjected to extensive Israeli attacks witnessed internal displacement, as tens of thousands of Palestinians moved from the eastern and northern parts of the city to its western and central areas.
Since October 7, 2023, Israel, with American support, has been committing genocide in Gaza that includes killing, starvation, destruction, and displacement, ignoring international calls and orders from the International Court of Justice to stop.
This genocide has resulted in 64,803 deaths and 164,264 injuries among Palestinians, most of whom are children and women, and hundreds of thousands of displaced individuals, with famine claiming the lives of 420 Palestinians, including 145 children, as of Saturday.
The residents of the city of Gaza are currently subjected to ethnic cleansing, and the occupation has reached a level of blind madness in its bombardment of schools.
