The "Middle East Eye" website published a report stating that a British-Palestinian campaign has called on the London police to investigate Israeli occupation President Isaac Herzog on charges related to war crimes, just ahead of his scheduled visit to Britain this week.
The report clarified that the International Center for Justice for Palestinians contacted the Metropolitan Police's Counter Terrorism Unit (SO15), indicating that Herzog could bear criminal responsibility for alleged war crimes, crimes against humanity, torture, and acts that may amount to potential genocide.
The center confirmed that diplomatic immunity does not exempt Herzog from questioning, and that the London police must adhere to both international and local laws in this context.
The website quoted Jonathan Purcell, the center's Chief of Public Affairs and Communications, saying: "This action represents a significant escalation in global legal efforts to hold senior Israeli officials accountable for war crimes and serious violations of international law."
Purcell added: "The rule of law applies to everyone regardless of their positions or nationalities. If political leaders refuse to submit to legal processes, their soldiers will be left vulnerable to justice alone, without immunity or protection. There will be no safe haven for suspects of war crimes. International law demands accountability, and we are determined to achieve it."
The website noted that this unannounced visit by Herzog is expected to provoke widespread outrage, especially since the Prime Minister of the occupation, Benjamin Netanyahu, is wanted by the International Criminal Court for committing war crimes and crimes against humanity.
The report pointed out that although Herzog is not wanted by the International Criminal Court, he has supported Israeli military operations in Gaza.
In October 2023, he stated that all Palestinians in Gaza are "unequivocally" responsible for Hamas's attack on October 7, saying at the time: "All this talk about unaware and uninvolved civilians is incorrect," a statement widely described as having a genocidal tone.
"Middle East Eye" indicated that Herzog's upcoming visit is the latest in a series of visits by senior Israeli officials to Britain over the past two years amid the Israeli genocide campaign in Gaza.
It noted that on November 25, 2024, the Chief of Staff of the Israeli occupation, Herzi Halevi, secretly visited London and met with Attorney General Lord Richard Heappey, where he received special immunity from the Labour Party government.
It added that the Israeli occupation's Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar made a similar secret visit in mid-April to hold talks with his British counterpart.
The report stated that these visits came days after Israeli occupation authorities detained and deported Labour MPs Ibtisam Muhammad and Yuwan Yang, while the commander of the Israeli Air Force, Major General Tomer Bar, had previously met with senior British defense officials during a visit to the United Kingdom.
This action represents a significant escalation in global legal efforts to hold senior Israeli officials accountable for war crimes.
