The Director of Health in Gaza, Munir Al-Barsh, warned today, Monday, that the forced evacuation of hospitals imposed by Israel endangers the lives of hundreds of patients, emphasizing that doctors and medical staff have decided to stay with the patients, especially children and those in intensive care.
Al-Barsh stated in a press statement today that more than 200 patients in intensive care need ventilators, noting that evacuating them means killing them directly, adding: "We will not leave our hospitals, and we will not abandon our patients; the alternative is death."
He explained that hospitals in Gaza are suffering from a severe shortage of basic resources, which prevents hundreds of urgent surgeries from being performed, at a time when the spread of diseases and epidemics is increasing due to water contamination.
He pointed out that more than 100 cases of Guillain-Barré syndrome have been recorded, amid the medical teams' inability to diagnose new diseases resulting from the deteriorating health conditions.
Al-Barsh called on the international community to fulfill its legal and humanitarian responsibilities and to implement the Geneva Conventions to protect health workers and civilians, stressing that hospitals are not safe from bombardment.
Al-Barsh's statements coincided with Israel's call for the residents of Gaza City to evacuate southward via Al-Rasheed Street towards the Mawasi area, considering it a humanitarian area, which the health authorities in the sector rejected as a form of forced displacement.
Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been committing genocide in Gaza, including killing, starvation, destruction, and forced displacement, ignoring all international calls and orders from the International Court of Justice to stop.
This genocide has resulted in 64,455 martyrs and 162,776 injured Palestinians, most of whom are children and women, over 9,000 missing, hundreds of thousands displaced, and famine that has claimed the lives of 393 Palestinians, including 140 children.
We will not leave our hospitals, and we will not abandon our patients; the alternative is death.
