The Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas commented today, Sunday, on reports about a new proposal to reach an agreement that includes the release of all prisoners and the end of the war in the Gaza Strip, addressing the issue of resistance weapons, according to what Hebrew media reported.
Hamas political bureau member Bassem Naeem indicated that "our position is clear, and we are waiting for a response to the proposal from the mediators that the movement has already accepted," emphasizing at the same time that "Hamas is ready for a comprehensive deal that ends the war, ensures a complete withdrawal from Gaza, exchanges all Israeli prisoners, and opens crossings for aid and reconstruction."
Regarding the resistance weapons, Naeem said in a tweet on the "X" platform: "Resistance is a legitimate right of the Palestinian people, guaranteed by international legitimacy and history, and we will not concede it except by establishing a sovereign Palestinian state, with Jerusalem as its capital, and the right of return. Until then, the movement may consider a long-term truce."
He mentioned that "Hamas hopes that the statements and tweets of U.S. President Donald Trump will serve as a plan and roadmap to end the war and rebuild the sector, and not as a new cover for Netanyahu's fascist government to continue the genocide, as has happened in previous instances."
Earlier on Sunday, Hamas stated in a press release that a leadership delegation concluded a visit to Egypt amid the genocide war on the Gaza Strip and the escalation of Israeli aggression in the West Bank and Jerusalem.
The statement noted that the Hamas delegation was headed by Zahir Jabareen and included members Hussam Badran, Kamal Abu Aoun, Ghazi Hamad, and Mahmoud Mardawi, and met with Palestinian factions, civil society institutions, Palestinian figures, and businessmen in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, with the aim of enhancing consultation, developing joint work, and drawing a national roadmap, alongside emphasizing that unity of position and field is the guarantee to end the war and strengthen resilience.
It pointed out that "the visit came in conjunction with the escalation of the occupation's crimes in the Gaza Strip and the increase in systematic policies of destruction and displacement, as part of the Zionist plans to reoccupy the city of Gaza and continue the genocide against the Palestinians."
It clarified that "the Palestinian factions agreed to sustain the search for ways to end the war and support the resilience of the people of the Gaza Strip, and to confront what is happening in the West Bank and occupied Jerusalem, alongside enhancing joint work to manage the battle and draw a national roadmap for after the war."
The Hebrew broadcasting authority reported that the United States, Qatar, and Egypt are set to present a new proposal this week to reach an agreement between Tel Aviv and Hamas, which includes the release of all prisoners, the end of the war, and the formation of a government in Gaza.
According to the authority, it is likely that the head of the negotiating team and a close associate of Netanyahu, Minister Ron Dermer, will arrive in the United States this week to consult with senior officials in the Trump administration.
This came following Hamas's confirmation on Saturday evening that it is "open to any idea or proposal that would achieve a comprehensive ceasefire, a complete withdrawal of occupation forces from the Gaza Strip, unconditional entry of humanitarian aid, and an exchange of prisoners through serious negotiations via mediators."
For his part, Israeli journalist and analyst at Channel 12, Barak Ravid, stated that White House envoy Steve Witkoff conveyed messages to Hamas through peace activist Gershon Baskin regarding a comprehensive deal for the release of all prisoners, both alive and dead, noting that the latter communicated with Hamas leader Ghazi Hamad, who was also in contact with him when he helped pass messages in the negotiations for the release of Gilad Shalit over a decade ago.
The proposal that Witkoff conveyed to Hamas through Baskin included several general principles, in addition to the release of all prisoners in exchange for ending the war.
Israeli Channel i24 revealed the main points included in the new proposal, which involve Hamas relinquishing its heavy weapons, such as tunnels and rockets, to be subject to Egyptian oversight, halting the recruitment of new fighters, stopping the development of military capabilities, and handing over full governance of Gaza to security.
Resistance is a legitimate right of the Palestinian people, guaranteed by international legitimacy and history.
