Egypt renews its call for Israel to accept the proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza.

Egypt renewed its call on Sunday for Israel to accept the proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza, emphasizing its firm rejection of the Israeli aggression against the enclave and the plans to displace Palestinians from their lands, as well as the crimes of genocide and starvation.

This was stated by Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Atti during a meeting with the Secretary of the Central Committee of the Palestinian Fatah Movement, Jibril Rajoub, in Cairo, according to a statement from the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, which did not mention the duration of the visit.

The two sides discussed ways to rally international support for recognizing the Palestinian state, in addition to the expected outcomes of the international conference on implementing the two-state solution, which will be hosted in New York City on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meetings this month.

During the meeting, Abdel Atti stressed his country's firm rejection of the Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip, the plans to displace Palestinians from their lands, and the crimes of genocide and the use of starvation as a weapon against the Palestinian people.

He emphasized the necessity for Israel to accept the ceasefire proposal put forth by mediators in Egypt and Qatar, which is based on the proposal of the U.S. Special Envoy for the Middle East (Steve Whitcomb).

Egypt, along with Qatar, sponsors indirect negotiations between Hamas and Israel regarding reaching an agreement for a prisoner exchange and ending the war on Gaza.

Hamas accepted, on August 18, a proposal for a ceasefire lasting up to 60 days, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu continues to refrain from responding.

With U.S. support, Israel has been committing genocide in Gaza since October 7, 2023, which includes killing, starvation, destruction, and forced displacement, ignoring all international calls and orders from the International Court of Justice to stop.

This genocide has resulted in 64,368 deaths and 162,367 injuries among Palestinians, most of whom are children and women, with over 9,000 missing, hundreds of thousands displaced, and famine claiming the lives of 387 Palestinians, including 138 children.

For decades, Israel has occupied Palestine and lands in Syria and Lebanon, refusing to withdraw and establish an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the borders prior to the 1967 war.
