Global newspapers and websites have addressed the repercussions of the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip, highlighting airstrikes as the main cause of fatalities, at a time when pressures on Tel Aviv are escalating both internally and externally, and Western voices critical of its policies towards Palestinians, whether in the Strip or the West Bank, are increasing.
The Israeli newspaper Haaretz clarified that airstrikes remain the primary factor behind the rising death toll in Gaza, despite international warnings about the spread of hunger and the falling of hundreds of victims in front of aid distribution centers, indicating that most of these strikes target civilian facilities without clear justification from the Israeli army.
According to the newspaper, an analysis of field data during the months of war reveals that the ongoing air bombardment remains the largest driver of the tragedy of Palestinians in the Strip, noting that this occurs amid a deliberate disregard for international criticisms and growing concern over the widening humanitarian disaster.
Meanwhile, the Jerusalem Post considered that Israel is heading towards a pivotal phase that may witness a conflict between its internal calculations and external options, with the onset of its attack on the city of Gaza and the increasing European and Arab pressures on it.
The newspaper pointed out that internal discussions are escalating regarding hostages and the situations in Gaza and the West Bank, while several international capitals are moving towards recognizing a Palestinian state, which places the Israeli government in front of decisive decisions that may affect the future of its political and security alliances.
In Washington, The Hill noted unprecedented accusations leveled by two Democratic senators against Israel, accusing it of practicing "ethnic cleansing" against Palestinians in Gaza, a characterization that reflects - according to the report - a new level of condemnation within Congress.
The report also indicated the widening circle of opposition to Israel's behavior among American lawmakers, whether regarding the blockade and bombardment of the Strip or its handling of the situations in the West Bank, reflecting a noticeable shift in American political discourse.
For its part, The Guardian addressed the recent American sanctions against Palestinian human rights organizations, considering that the three targeted groups have played a pivotal role in documenting Israeli violations since the beginning of the war, and that the imposition of sanctions on them came due to their calls for opening international investigations into potential war crimes.
The newspaper mentioned that these organizations have remained among the most prominent human rights entities documenting violations in the Palestinian territories for decades, and that targeting them raises concerns about attempts to undermine independent human rights work in the region.
Regarding the developments in Yemen, The Washington Post warned of a serious deterioration in the health and humanitarian situation, pointing out that the targeting of ports and civilian infrastructure in the country due to attacks carried out by Israel and the United States has led to a paralysis in the flow of external supplies.
The newspaper added that these supplies constitute a lifeline for millions of Yemenis, especially amid reduced international aid and imposed sanctions, exacerbating the suffering of the population and threatening an unprecedented collapse of the humanitarian situation.
