An Israeli soldier revealed that he attempts suicide daily and his biggest dream is to receive a bullet between his eyes, during a testimony he gave before members of the Knesset's Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee.
The soldier was speaking before the committee on Wednesday, according to what the Knesset published on its website on Thursday regarding the committee's discussions about the military service law and the conscription of students from religious schools "Haredim".
He added: "He (the soldier) said passionately: We deal with many things here, but in the end, we do not deal with what is really important.. I am a 21-year-old young man, and my biggest dream, if you ask me, is to receive a bullet between my eyes. I am a moving corpse. I am a dead person."
He continued: "Do you know the feeling of lifting the bodies of your comrades with whom you shared sleep and underwent basic training, only for them to explode before your eyes moments later? I lost 23 comrades, and three days ago one of our soldiers committed suicide.. I see bodies before my eyes. And I do not want to live, I cannot live."
He mentioned, "It is impossible to continue in this situation, and if we are here to save lives, and if we do not wake up, then after this damned war, there will be a wave of suicides (here). We will see bodies in the streets."
On Monday, an Israeli soldier took his own life inside a military base in the north, raising the number of military suicides since the beginning of 2025 to 18, according to official Hebrew media.
The Hebrew broadcasting authority stated that "a fighter from the Golani Brigade in regular service (whose name was not mentioned) ended his life today (Monday), and he was found dead in a military base in northern Israel."
The Israeli military police opened an investigation into the soldier's death, and upon its conclusion, the results will be forwarded for examination by the military prosecution, according to the same source.
The authority did not clarify the circumstances of the soldier's suicide or at which base it occurred, but it indicated that "the number of soldiers who have ended their lives since the beginning of this year has reached 18."
About two weeks ago, reserve captain Yosef Chaim (28 years old) committed suicide and was found in the woods near "Ramat Boria" in the occupied territories.
The broadcasting authority reported that "with the increasing wave of suicides among Israeli soldiers, the head of the human resources branch in the army, Major General Dado Bar Kalifa, decided at the end of July to form a committee to examine the level of support provided to discharged soldiers and reservists outside active service, who ended their lives due to their military service."
This announcement by Kalifa came after the suicide of a reserve soldier in the "401 Armored Brigade," Roi Vaserstein, following his exposure to horrific scenes during the war in Gaza, according to the Israeli army radio.
July alone witnessed the suicide of 7 Israeli soldiers, according to the Hebrew newspaper "Haaretz."
According to an investigation by the occupation army published during August, most suicide cases were attributed to harsh conditions faced by soldiers during combat in the Gaza Strip.
