Families of Israeli prisoners are calling for demonstrations to pressure for a prisoner exchange deal.

The Israeli families of prisoners in Gaza called today, Thursday, for widespread demonstrations to pressure for a prisoner exchange agreement, accusing the Israeli government of obstructing efforts to end the war, in contrast to Hamas's eagerness to achieve it.

The organization stated in a statement that "time is running out," considering that the coming days will be crucial for the fate of the Israeli prisoners and the Israeli society as a whole.

It urged citizens to take to the streets to demand the return of all prisoners and the end of the war, and appealed to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the mediators, including the U.S. administration, for an immediate call to resume negotiations.

It added that "the awaited good news for Israeli society lies in accepting the proposal of Yitkov to be part of a comprehensive agreement for the return of the 48 prisoners."

In a related context, dozens of high school students in the city of "Ramat Hasharon" in central Israel held a protest march during which they raised slogans demanding an immediate exchange deal.

Liran Berman, a brother of two prisoners in Gaza, stated that "Hamas seems more eager to conclude the deal and end the war than the Israeli government."

Berman added that Hamas's efforts to return the Israeli prisoners face internal obstacles from the Israeli side.

Meanwhile, former prisoner Omer Finkert expressed his "frustration with the escalation of fighting and his disappointment with all parties," noting that he had hoped for the return of the Israeli prisoners at this stage.

"Netanyahu the obstructer," for his part, accused former Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is wanted by the International Criminal Court, of obstructing the deal despite Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir's announcement of meeting the conditions for the return of the prisoners, denying that far-right ministers like Itamar Ben Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich are the ones obstructing the agreement.

Eisenkot clarified in statements to the army radio that Netanyahu described the demonstrators and the families of the prisoners as "fascist brigades," so he should be reminded of the demonstrations he participated in 30 years ago.

In contrast, Israeli Heritage Minister Amihai Eliyahu, who called for bombing Gaza with a nuclear bomb, stated that "the only solution to return the hostages and ensure that this does not happen again in the future is to defeat Hamas," adding that the Chief of Staff should resign if he is unable to achieve that.

Disagreements within Israel have escalated recently after Hamas announced its and the Palestinian factions' acceptance of the proposal presented by the mediators (Qatar and Egypt), but Israel responded to this step with indifference, then announced its rejection of "partial deals," as it described them.
