Israeli Army: It is not certain that the occupation of Gaza City will change Hamas's position.

The Israeli army considers that "it is not at all certain" that the occupation of Gaza City will change Hamas's position in the enclave, which has been subjected to a genocidal war for nearly two years.

Israeli public broadcasting reported on Thursday, citing an unnamed representative of the Israeli army, who said yesterday in a closed session of the parliamentary Foreign Affairs and Security Committee, that "it is not certain that the occupation of Gaza City will move Hamas," according to his expression.

On Wednesday evening, the Israeli army launched an aggression named "Gideon's Chariots 2," to completely occupy Gaza City (north), which escalates the catastrophic inhumane conditions of the Palestinians.

This comes as part of the ongoing genocide that Israel has been conducting against the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip for nearly two years.

In response to a question from a member of the Knesset from the Likud party, Amit Halevi, "Does the occupation of Gaza City even move Hamas?" the military representative said: "I did not say it would affect Hamas; this is not certain at all; the city has symbolic importance."

The agency added: "It was raised in the discussion that according to Israeli army estimates, about 800,000 people remained in Gaza City as of yesterday," according to its claim.

According to the broadcasting agency, "Hamas is moving diplomatically and preparing militarily to prevent the occupation of Gaza City."

It claimed that Hamas "is exerting intense pressure on Egypt and Qatar to convince the United States to stop the Israeli operation, under the pretext of agreeing to the mediators' plan, which Israel rejects."

It added: "On the military front, Hamas is preparing all available military means around the city to try to inflict damage on the Israeli army forces if the maneuver deepens, and Hamas's preparations also include attempts to launch attacks, not just to defend itself."

On August 18, Hamas agreed to a proposal from mediators regarding a partial ceasefire and prisoner exchange in Gaza, but Israel did not respond to the mediators, despite the alignment of its terms with a previous proposal put forth by U.S. envoy Steve Whitkoff, which Tel Aviv had agreed to.

Instead, Netanyahu is pushing for the occupation of Gaza City under the pretext of releasing prisoners and defeating Hamas, amid significant skepticism about the feasibility of achieving this from opponents and former officials, with the Israeli army confirming that the operation poses a risk to the lives of the prisoners.

With U.S. support, Israel has been committing genocide in Gaza since October 7, 2023, including killing, starvation, destruction, and forced displacement, ignoring all international calls and orders from the International Court of Justice to stop.

This genocide has resulted in 63,746 dead and 161,245 injured Palestinians, most of whom are children and women, more than 9,000 missing, hundreds of thousands displaced, and famine that has killed 367 Palestinians, including 131 children.
