Former Scottish Prime Minister accuses Britain of complicity in "the genocide of Gaza"

The former Scottish Prime Minister, Humza Yousaf, stated that he has never witnessed terrifying scenes in his life like those happening in the besieged Gaza Strip, considering at the same time that: "Hundreds of thousands of people have been martyred there in front of the eyes and ears of the world, while governments remained silent."

Yousaf described, in an interview with Al-Ghad TV on Tuesday, the silent governments as: "Complicit in the war by supporting the occupying state of Israel and exporting weapons to it."

In the same context, Yousaf pointed out that: The United Kingdom sold weapons to the occupying state of Israel during the ongoing genocide in the entire besieged Gaza Strip, affirming by saying that: "The whole world is involved to varying degrees in what is happening in the genocide in Gaza."

The former Prime Minister clarified that: "The British government bears a historical responsibility for what is happening between the Israeli occupation and Palestine," referring to the fact that: "Britain has previously played a role in complicating the Palestinian issue," noting that it has not played a positive and fair role in resolving the problem, and has continued over the past months to send weapons to the occupation and provide intelligence information to assist it in the war on Gaza.

Yousaf also pointed out that: The British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, is aware of what is happening in Gaza, yet his government's actions do not reflect his statements, adding that: "The majority of the Irish people stand with the Palestinian people, while the government remains disconnected from the will of the street."

He revealed that his country has not maintained any diplomatic relations with the Israeli occupation government since the genocide, and that it condemns the efforts of ethnic cleansing.

He announced that the parliament is preparing to support the recognition of the Palestinian state, expressing hope that this would send a message to the world about the necessity of condemning what he described as the brutality of the Israeli occupation state.

Alongside the genocide in Gaza, at least 1,017 Palestinians have been martyred due to the ongoing reckless aggression of the Israeli occupation army and settlers in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and around 7,000 others have been injured, in addition to the arrest of more than 18,500, according to Palestinian data.

With American support, the occupying state has been committing genocide in Gaza since October 2023, resulting in 63,746 martyrs and 161,245 injured Palestinians, most of whom are children and women, over 9,000 missing, and hundreds of thousands displaced, along with a famine that has killed 367 Palestinians, including 131 children.
