British Foreign Secretary David Lammy stated that the famine in Gaza is "man-made," referring to the systematic starvation imposed by Tel Aviv on the Palestinians, expressing his deep anger at the Israeli government's refusal to allow aid to enter.
In a speech during a session in the British Parliament on Monday evening, Lammy pointed to the need for a comprehensive humanitarian response to prevent further death in the besieged Gaza Strip.
He added: "This is a man-made famine in the 21st century, and the Israeli government's refusal to allow aid to enter adequately angers me."
Lammy warned of the worsening famine in Gaza if necessary measures are not taken, noting that more than 300 people, including 119 children, have died from malnutrition since July 1.
He announced that his country will provide an additional £15 million in aid and medical care to the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
He also pointed out that he is working to bring more injured children and those suffering from serious illnesses from Gaza to Britain for treatment.
He confirmed that if no progress is made regarding a ceasefire in Gaza, Britain will take steps to recognize the State of Palestine at the United Nations General Assembly this September.
This is a man-made famine in the 21st century, and the Israeli government's refusal to allow aid to enter angers me.
