Netanyahu talks about a military operation in Syria.. and threatens Iran and "Hamas"

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu renewed his aggressive rhetoric towards Lebanon, Syria, and the Gaza Strip today, Sunday, asserting that his government strikes Hezbollah every time it tries to raise its head.

In a video clip broadcast on his official account on the X platform, Netanyahu stated that the Israeli army carried out a military operation in Syria a few days ago, without revealing details, merely saying that operations would continue until the Iranian axis and Hamas are eliminated, and all hostages are recovered.

Netanyahu's statements come at a time when the northern front is experiencing ongoing tension, despite reaching a fragile ceasefire agreement in November 2024, mediated internationally.

The Israeli occupation continues to carry out airstrikes on several areas in southern Lebanon and the Bekaa Valley, claiming they target weapons depots and military infrastructure belonging to Hezbollah. The Israeli occupation forces still control five border hills that they occupied during recent confrontations, in clear violation of the terms of the agreement.

In contrast, the Lebanese government announced on August 5 of this year that it has tasked the army with preparing a plan to disarm Hezbollah by the end of the year, as part of efforts to impose state sovereignty over all its territories.

Hezbollah categorically rejected this proposal, stipulating that for discussions on its weapons to take place, the Israeli occupation must stop its airstrikes and withdraw its forces from southern Lebanon.

In a different context, Netanyahu considered that all attempts by the internal opposition to overthrow his government will fail, referring to the ongoing protests in Tel Aviv and several Israeli cities, which demand early elections, accusing him of failing to manage the war on Gaza and regional issues.

Analysts confirm that Netanyahu's repeated statements against Hezbollah and Iran come as part of an attempt to regain political and military initiative, following the sharp criticisms his government faced due to the prolonged war in Gaza and the failure to achieve its declared objectives since October 2023.

Three Israeli officials had previously stated that Israel is considering annexing the occupied West Bank, in a potential response to France and other countries recognizing a Palestinian state, and another Israeli official mentioned that the idea will receive greater discussion.

A member of the security cabinet stated that Israel's assertion of sovereignty over the West Bank, meaning the actual annexation of the territories it seized in the 1967 war, is on the agenda of the meeting.
