Medical sources announced today, Saturday, the death of 10 citizens, including three children, due to starvation and malnutrition, recorded by hospitals in the Gaza Strip over the past 24 hours.
The same sources reported that the total number of victims of starvation and malnutrition has risen to 332 martyrs, including 124 children.
Since the declaration of famine classification in the Gaza Strip by the IPC on August 22, 2023, 54 deaths have been recorded, including 9 children due to starvation.
An international classification of food insecurity, involving the United Nations, confirmed the occurrence of famine in the Gaza Governorate and predicted its spread to the Deir al-Balah and Khan Younis Governorates by the end of September.
The integrated food security classification stated that more than half a million people in the Gaza Strip are facing catastrophic conditions, which is the fifth phase of the classification, characterized by severe hunger, death, deprivation, and extremely critical levels of acute malnutrition.
The classification noted that 1.07 million other people (54% of the population) are facing the fourth phase, which is the acute food insecurity 'emergency' phase.
396,000 people (20% of the population) are facing the third phase, which is the acute food insecurity 'crisis' phase.
The integrated food security classification is a global initiative that includes agencies from the United Nations, regional partners, and relief organizations, and it classifies food insecurity into five phases, with famine being the most severe, ranked fifth.
