The Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip enters its 691st day, causing an unprecedented humanitarian disaster, as the United Nations has officially declared a famine in the region. This situation coincides with the continuation of violent Israeli airstrikes that claim dozens of lives daily, especially among civilians who are waiting for aid.
The death toll continues to rise tragically, with recent statistics showing that the number of martyrs since October 7, 2023, has reached 62,819, the majority of whom are children and women. The number of injured has also reached 158,629, with 75 martyrs and 370 injured recorded in the past 24 hours.
Reports also indicate an increase in the number of martyrs due to malnutrition and drought, with a total of 303 martyrs in this category, including 117 children. Additionally, 17 civilians have died while waiting for aid, raising the total casualties in this category to 2,140 martyrs.
In a development unprecedented in the Middle East, the United Nations confirmed the existence of famine in the Gaza Governorate, warning that half a million people are facing catastrophic hunger. The spokesperson for the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs confirmed that the situation is entirely man-made and could have been prevented.
The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) described the ongoing attacks on Gaza as a terrifying part of the daily reality for children, with 1.1 million children suffering from psychological and emotional trauma that is difficult to treat. Malnutrition is also escalating at a catastrophic rate, with one in four children suffering from severe acute malnutrition.
On the international front, the European Union described the killing of civilians, journalists, and health workers in an Israeli airstrike targeting Nasser Hospital as completely unacceptable, reiterating its call for the occupying state to respect international humanitarian law. Nevertheless, efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement remain stalled.
The deadlock in negotiations continues, with sources confirming that what is happening is limited to attempts to coordinate the start of talks, while the Israeli cabinet has approved the plan of the occupying government’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to proceed with the war, ignoring international calls.
