The families of Israeli prisoners have called for widespread protests on Tuesday, in an attempt to pressure Benjamin Netanyahu's government to accept an agreement that would return the prisoners and halt the ongoing aggression against the besieged Gaza Strip, which has lasted for nearly two years. These protests coincide with a meeting of the security cabinet, known as the 'kitchen cabinet,' which will discuss the stance on Hamas's acceptance of the mediators' proposal for a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza.
In a statement published by Hebrew media, the families confirmed that they are calling for intensified efforts to bring their loved ones home, noting that 'the vast majority of the people of Israel want to bring our loved ones back to their homes.' They pointed out that the procrastination in reaching an agreement for their return contradicts the will of the people and its core values.
The events will begin under the title 'Israel Stands United' in the morning with the raising of giant flags in front of the U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv, and there will also be protest activities at road intersections throughout Israel, along with massive marches and sit-ins culminating in a large gathering at the Kidnapped Persons Square in Tel Aviv.
Tel Aviv estimates that there are 50 Israeli prisoners in Gaza, of whom 20 are alive, while more than 10,800 Palestinians are held in occupation prisons suffering from torture, starvation, and medical neglect, which has led to the martyrdom of many of them according to human rights and media reports.
The Israeli Broadcasting Authority reported that the families of the kidnapped are seeking this time to show popular support for the deal without strikes, at a time when a poll showed that 74% of Israelis support ending the war on Gaza as part of a prisoner exchange deal.
These developments come amid military escalation and the stern message conveyed by Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir, who warned that the occupation of Gaza City could endanger the lives of the captives. He confirmed that the army has provided the necessary conditions to complete the exchange deal.
On the other hand, the newspaper 'Israel Hayom' reported that the 'kitchen cabinet' will convene tomorrow to discuss the prisoner deal with Hamas and expand the scope of fighting in Gaza. Meanwhile, Netanyahu has instructed to begin immediate negotiations for the release of the prisoners in parallel with a plan to occupy what remains of the Gaza Strip.
Netanyahu's statement reflects his desire for a deal on new terms, while the mediators await an official response from him to a U.S. proposal that Hamas recently announced its acceptance of. Amid U.S. support, Israel continues to commit genocide in Gaza, ignoring international calls.
The vast majority of the people of Israel want to bring our loved ones back to their homes.
