Lazzarini: The children of Gaza are doomed to die if aid does not arrive quickly.

The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, warned that the hungriest children in the Gaza Strip are "condemned to die" if aid does not reach them urgently. These statements come at a time when the besieged territory is suffering from a suffocating humanitarian crisis.

In a statement, Lazzarini noted that hunger levels in Gaza, especially in the north, have reached unprecedented levels, with approximately one million people still living in Gaza City according to estimates. These figures reflect the tragic situation faced by Palestinians in the region.

Lazzarini also announced the imminent release of an assessment of the hunger situation in the area, highlighting the importance of the current situation and confirming the urgent need for humanitarian assistance. UNRWA health centers have seen a significant increase in the number of children suffering from acute malnutrition, with rates rising sixfold since last March.

Lazzarini added that the situation requires urgent measures, warning that children in Gaza are already dying of hunger, and that the situation will worsen without immediate intervention. These statements reflect the growing concern from the international community regarding the humanitarian crisis in the region.

These warnings come at a time when pressure is increasing on humanitarian organizations to provide the necessary assistance, amid the blockade imposed on the area which exacerbates the suffering of the population. The humanitarian situation in Gaza requires an urgent response from the international community.
