The Norwegian Football Federation announced that the proceeds from the match between the Norwegian national team and the occupying team will be allocated to support the besieged Gaza Strip. The match, scheduled to take place in Oslo on October 11, 2026, is part of the World Cup qualifiers and reflects Norway's commitment to supporting humanitarian causes.
Liz Klaveness, the president of the Norwegian Football Federation, confirmed in an official statement that the aim of this step is to provide urgent assistance to humanitarian organizations working to save lives in Gaza. She highlighted the important role these organizations play in providing emergency aid to those in need.
The expected amount from ticket sales for the match has not been specified, but a large turnout from Norwegian fans is anticipated. The match will be held at the "Ullevål" stadium, which has a capacity of 26,000 spectators, although strict security measures may reduce the number of available tickets by about 3,000.
In response to this initiative, the Israeli Football Association demanded that the Norwegian Federation condemn the attacks that occurred on October 7, 2023, and the detention of Palestinian prisoners by Hamas. These demands reflect the increasing tensions between the two sides under the current circumstances.
The Israeli Federation also noted in its statement the necessity of ensuring that the funds generated from the match do not go to organizations it considers terrorist, referencing previous issues Norway has faced due to international criticism.
On the other hand, the Norwegian Minister of Finance announced that the government is considering taking additional measures regarding its investments in the occupying state, indicating that this issue is receiving serious attention from Norwegian authorities. The minister confirmed that this matter is a priority on the government's agenda.
These steps come at a sensitive time, as Palestinians in Gaza face difficult humanitarian conditions, making international support more crucial than ever. Through this initiative, Norway aims to highlight the suffering of the Palestinian people.
We want to donate the proceeds from the match to a humanitarian organization that saves lives daily in Gaza.
