UN condemns Israel's continued prevention of the entry of tents into Gaza despite the evacuation.

The United Nations stated that the occupying state has been preventing the entry of tents into the besieged Gaza Strip for months, despite orders issued to evacuate civilians, especially in the city of Gaza. Jens Laerke, spokesperson for the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, explained that this ban has been ongoing for five months, resulting in the displacement of more than 700,000 people multiple times.

Laerke pointed out that the displaced often have to leave their tents during repeated movements, exposing them to repeated displacement. He confirmed that Israeli measures have prevented any change to this reality, as the authorities refuse to allow the entry of tents, justifying this by claiming that tents could be used for military purposes.

In a related context, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights stated that the occupying state is sending Palestinians to areas that are under bombardment and airstrikes. The spokesperson for the office, Thameen Al-Khaitan, explained that orders have been issued for hundreds of thousands of Gaza residents to head south to the Mawasi area, which is also under bombardment.

Al-Khaitan added that Palestinians in those areas receive very little in terms of basic services, including food, water, electricity, and tents, which exacerbates their suffering. The office indicated that the threat of famine looms over all of the Gaza Strip, as a direct result of the Israeli government's policy of preventing the entry of humanitarian aid.

It also clarified that the aid entering in recent weeks remains far below the level required to avoid widespread famine. The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, supported by the occupying state and the United States, has begun distributing aid in the sector, further worsening the shortage of food supplies.

Al-Khaitan noted that obtaining the scant supplies available can be a deadly endeavor, as the United Nations documented the deaths of 1,857 Palestinians while attempting to obtain food from May 27 to August 17, including 1,021 who were martyred near the distribution sites of the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation and 836 who were killed on supply truck routes.
