The Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas has received a new proposal from Egyptian and Qatari mediators regarding a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, with the movement informing the mediators of its acceptance of this proposal. A Hamas official confirmed that the movement communicated its approval to the mediators without going into further details.
The new proposal is based on what was presented by U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff, which includes a ceasefire lasting sixty days, in addition to a prisoner exchange deal involving the release of 10 Israeli prisoners and 18 bodies in two phases. This proposal aims to initiate indirect negotiations between the Israeli occupation and Hamas.
During the sixty-day period, comprehensive negotiations will begin to end the war in Gaza, where discussions will focus on a deal for the remaining prisoners in the Gaza Strip, which includes 10 additional prisoners along with Israeli bodies. These negotiations will be sponsored by the Egyptian and Qatari mediators.
The proposal also includes the introduction of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, but without a clear framework, raising questions about the occupation's commitment to the terms of the agreement. It also stipulates the withdrawal of the occupation army from the Gaza Strip after the prisoners are handed over.
Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa announced the imminent formation of a temporary committee to manage the sector, reflecting efforts to secure effective governance of the sector during the ceasefire period. The proposal also includes long-term security arrangements in the Gaza Strip.
On the first day of the ceasefire, negotiations will begin under the auspices of Arab mediators to implement the agreement and ensure a permanent ceasefire. These negotiations will address the conditions for the release of the remaining prisoners and the redeployment of the occupation army.
Writer and political analyst Ibrahim Al-Madhoun pointed out that Hamas has already received a new proposal from the Egyptian side, which is an extension of the previous proposal, reflecting Cairo's desire to resume negotiations.
Al-Madhoun confirmed that Hamas's priority is to stop the genocide and halt the policy of starvation, which may lead the movement to accept the proposal, provided it includes a comprehensive ceasefire.
However, the question remains about the extent of the Israeli occupation's responsiveness to this proposal, as the Israeli stance does not seem to indicate a genuine acceptance of the proposal.
The greatest fear lies in the possibility of the occupation invading and occupying the city of Gaza, which would mean the continuation of the policies of genocide and displacement. Therefore, everyone is striving for an urgent calm, while the occupation remains the only party that is stalling.
Hamas's priority at this stage is to stop the genocide and halt the policy of starvation.
