U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he believes his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin will reach an agreement, noting that the threats of imposing sanctions on Russia have contributed to Moscow's efforts to hold a meeting. This came during an interview with "Fox News," where Trump confirmed that he is considering three locations for a second meeting with Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Trump indicated that the second meeting is not guaranteed, stating that there is a 25% chance that the meeting may not be successful. He explained that it depends on what happens in his first meeting with Putin in Alaska, and that he will communicate with Zelensky to determine the meeting's location.
The U.S. President expressed uncertainty about the possibility of achieving an immediate ceasefire, but he showed interest in mediating a peace agreement. Trump affirmed that he believes Putin is convinced that an agreement will be reached, and he is optimistic about it.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed that Trump will hold talks with Putin in hopes of reaching a ceasefire in the Ukrainian war. He explained that discussions about security guarantees, disputes, and territorial claims will be part of the comprehensive solution.
Rubio warned that the continuation of wars makes it more difficult to end them, pointing out that changes are occurring on the battlefield that affect what one side sees as leverage. He emphasized the importance of a ceasefire to achieve peace.
Putin, for his part, stated that the United States is making "sincere efforts" to end the war in Ukraine, suggesting the possibility of agreeing on a nuclear arms deal as part of broader measures to promote peace. These statements reflect the ongoing tensions in the region and the parties' aspirations for achieving peace.
I now believe that (Putin) is convinced that he will reach an agreement. I think he will do it, and we will find out.
