The Palestinian Football Association announced the martyrdom of 8 members of the Palestinian sports and scouting movement since the beginning of August, raising the number of sports martyrs to 668.
Among the martyrs, 339 were killed in the field of football, the latest being Islam Nafez Matar, a player for Al-Aqsa Club, and Moamen Aliwa, a player for the second team at Al-Shuja'iyya Club.
Matar was martyred on August 2 while waiting for aid in the Gaza Strip, while Aliwa was killed in an airstrike by the occupation that targeted a tent for journalists last Sunday.
The association also noted that August followed July, which witnessed the martyrdom of 40 athletes, including Suleiman Al-Obaid, a former national team star, and Alaa Rafiq Al-Madhoun, a wrestler.
Additionally, Nasrallah Muhammad Nasrallah Al-Muqataa, a player for Deir al-Balah Union, Alaa Jumaa Al-Hawajri, a player for Al-Nuseirat Services, and Mahmoud Rafiq Shaheen, a player for Al-Tuffah Club, were also martyred.
Mustafa Ahmed Tafesh, a player for the Palestine national baseball team, was martyred as a result of an Israeli airstrike near his home, reflecting the extent of the suffering faced by Palestinian athletes under occupation.
The martyrs of the sports movement reflect the suffering of the Palestinian people under occupation.
