The Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the State of Palestine, Zheng Jiqin, today, Wednesday, signed the annual grant for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) amounting to 1.5 million US dollars. The agreement was signed at the agency's headquarters in the Jordanian capital, Amman.
Zheng explained that the Chinese government has consistently provided assistance to support UNRWA in fulfilling its mandate. China has not only provided cash and medical aid to the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and other areas of UNRWA's operations but has also increased its annual donation to UNRWA.
Zheng reaffirmed the Chinese government's steadfast position in supporting the work of UNRWA since its establishment in the 1940s, pointing out China's continuous support for Palestine in reaching a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue.
Zheng noted China's appreciation for the services overseen by the agency, which are provided to nearly 6 million Palestinian refugees in the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and in the diaspora. He emphasized the importance of international support for the Palestinian side.
Zheng called on the international community to increase material and medical support for the Palestinian side through the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees, stressing that the difficult humanitarian conditions faced by the Palestinian people cannot be ignored.
Zheng confirmed that China will remain a loyal friend to the Palestinian people, steadfastly supporting their just demands and any efforts made to achieve a comprehensive, just, and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue, based on the two-state solution.
