Halila confirmed to the Palestinian radio station "Ajeel" the accuracy of what the Hebrew newspaper "Yedioth Ahronoth" reported about his name being proposed as "governor" of the Gaza Strip by an Israeli lobbying group operating in the United States. He claimed that he received this offer months ago from a Canadian contractor working with the U.S. administration.

A responsible source in the Palestinian presidency stated that "the Gaza Strip is an integral part of the Palestinian state, and its administration is the responsibility of the Palestinian National Authority and the Palestinian government alone."
