A source in the Palestinian presidency demands Samir Halila to "stop spreading lies."

A source in the Palestinian presidency urged businessman Samir Halila on Tuesday to "stop spreading lies," referring to his statements about what Hebrew media reported regarding efforts to appoint him as the governor of the Gaza Strip. These statements come at a sensitive time when the Palestinian cause is witnessing rapid developments.

Halila confirmed to the Palestinian radio station "Ajeel" the accuracy of what the Hebrew newspaper "Yedioth Ahronoth" reported about his name being proposed as "governor" of the Gaza Strip by an Israeli lobbying group operating in the United States. He claimed that he received this offer months ago from a Canadian contractor working with the U.S. administration.

A responsible source in the Palestinian presidency stated that "the Gaza Strip is an integral part of the Palestinian state, and its administration is the responsibility of the Palestinian National Authority and the Palestinian government alone." He emphasized the rejection of any attempts to separate the Gaza Strip from the West Bank within what he described as "the Israeli project."

The source condemned Halila's statements, which he considered "a circumvention of the official position of the Palestine Liberation Organization and the Palestinian Authority," demanding that he "stop spreading lies and covering up his disgraceful position that places him under responsibility."

In a related context, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in an interview with the American network "Fox News" that he would reoccupy the Gaza Strip, claiming that he would hand it over after "taking control" to "civilian rule" free from the influence of Hamas.

Samir Halila is a Palestinian businessman and politician, born on May 11, 1957, in the city of Jericho in the eastern West Bank. He has held several positions, including Secretary-General of Ahmed Qurei's government and Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy and Trade.

Since October 7, 2023, Israel, with American support, has been committing genocide in Gaza, including killing, starvation, destruction, and displacement, ignoring international calls and orders from the International Court of Justice to stop. This genocide has resulted in a massive number of martyrs and injured.
