A Hamas delegation arrives in Cairo to discuss a "60-day" truce in Gaza.

A delegation from the Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas arrived in Egypt as part of intensive efforts by Cairo to reach a 60-day truce in the Gaza Strip. The delegation was headed by Khalil al-Hayya, and this visit comes after a period of stagnation in the negotiation process.

The visit of the Hamas delegation coincided with the Israeli government's approval of a gradual plan to fully occupy the Gaza Strip, starting with the city of Gaza, which is home to about one million Palestinians. This step reflects the escalation of the occupation in the region and complicates the humanitarian situation.

Egyptian sources confirmed that the meetings in Cairo focus on discussing a ceasefire and reaching a temporary truce. They also indicated that there are intensive Egyptian efforts aimed at resuming negotiations and progressing towards a ceasefire agreement.

Earlier, the Hebrew broadcasting authority revealed a division within the Israeli negotiating team regarding the possibility of advancing in negotiations for a prisoner exchange and a ceasefire. Pressure is expected to increase on Israel and Hamas to return to the negotiating table.

The authority reported that the Hamas delegation will discuss in Cairo a new initiative that includes a comprehensive deal for the release of 50 Israelis in exchange for the disarmament of the movement. However, Hamas has not issued any immediate comment regarding this visit.

Hamas has repeatedly announced its readiness to release Israeli prisoners in exchange for ending the aggression and the withdrawal of the occupation army from Gaza, but the occupying Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is imposing new conditions that complicate the negotiation process.

Since October 7, 2023, the Gaza Strip has been experiencing genocide by the occupation, resulting in the martyrdom of 61,499 Palestinians and the injury of 153,575 others, in addition to hundreds of thousands of displaced persons.
