Israel Deliberately Creates Famine in Gaza Through Precise Calculations
Israel knows precisely the amount of food needed by the residents of Gaza and deliberately refrains from allowing sufficient aid to create a man-made famine.
Writer Emma Graham-Harrison revealed in a report published by The Guardian that Israel completely controls the flow of food into the Gaza Strip and reduces the amount of aid allowed to enter in order to impose a collective famine on the population. She confirmed that Israel is fully aware of the amount of food necessary for the survival of the residents, as it has previously calculated the required quantity accurately in official documents, yet allows only a tiny portion of that aid to enter.
She noted that the number of deaths resulting from hunger in just 11 days exceeded the toll of 21 months of war, revealing that famine is not merely a claim but a bitter reality imposed deliberately by the occupation. She explained that Israel has controlled hunger levels over the past decades by manipulating the amounts of food allowed to enter, aiming to exert psychological and political pressure on the population without causing a complete famine.
In 2006, former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's advisor stated that the goal was to put Palestinians on a diet without them starving to death, reflecting the occupation's intention to control nutrition levels. In 2008, the Israeli "Cogat" agency calculated that the minimum daily requirement per person is 2,300 calories, or about 1.8 kg of food, but Israel allowed only 56,000 tons of food to enter from March to June, which is less than a quarter of the required amount, confirming the existence of a deliberate starvation policy.
Despite Israeli officials denying the existence of famine and claiming that Hamas or the United Nations are responsible for the lack of aid, independent reports confirm that shipments were insufficient and that the aid distribution plan would lead to famine even if implemented perfectly. The Famine Review Committee indicated that even the best distribution plans would fail to meet needs, and that the food provided is fundamentally inadequate, reflecting a premeditated intention to impose famine.
Israeli data shows that air drops of aid continued for 104 days out of 21 months of war, but the amount provided was equivalent to the needs of the sector for only four days, at a high cost. If this amount had been invested in trucks, much larger quantities of food could have been brought in. Israel typically uses air drops as a last resort in emergencies, but in Gaza, the only obstacle to the entry of aid is the restrictions imposed by Israel, which prevent the end of famine.
