The martyrdom of a Palestinian Red Crescent employee and the injury of three others due to the targeting of the occupation forces at the association's headquarters in Khan Younis
The Palestinian Red Crescent Society announced today, Sunday, the death of one of its employees and the injury of three others in an Israeli bombardment that targeted its headquarters in the city of Khan Younis in the Gaza Strip. The organization issued a statement via X platform, stating that the occupation forces targeted the building, leading to a fire on the first floor and the destruction of parts of the building. A video clip published by the organization showed moments of the attack, with flames raging and debris scattered around the building.
The organization clarified that the incident resulted in the martyrdom of one of its employees and injuries to others, while rescue teams continued to work to extinguish the fires and provide first aid to the wounded. It pointed out that the fire broke out mainly on the first floor of the building, and that the flames were burning intensely, reflecting the extent of the destruction caused by the attack.
This attack came two days after the visit of U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff to a distribution center for aid in Gaza, which is supported by the United States, as part of his efforts to facilitate the entry of food supplies into the besieged and devastated sector. Local sources confirmed that the Israeli bombardment resulted in a number of casualties, as the civil defense in Gaza announced that at least 32 Palestinians had died in ongoing airstrikes and bombardments in various areas of the sector, including 14 killed by Israeli army fire near aid distribution centers managed by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation.
In a related context, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs reported that eight Red Crescent paramedics, six civil defense personnel, and one employee from UNRWA were killed in Israeli attacks in southern Gaza during last March, indicating the continued targeting of medical and civilian personnel in the sector. These events confirm the escalation of violence and destruction in Gaza, amid the deterioration of humanitarian conditions and the increasing suffering of the civilian population.
