Death toll in Gaza due to starvation rises to 162, including 92 children

The number of deaths in the Gaza Strip is rising due to the starvation policy continuously implemented by Israel, with the number of victims increasing day by day, as the humanitarian situation deteriorates dangerously. The Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza announced that the toll of victims from the starvation policy has reached 162 deaths, including 92 children, after recording three new deaths in the past twenty-four hours.

In a statement issued by the ministry, it noted that hospitals in the sector recorded three new deaths in the last day due to malnutrition and famine, including two children, raising the total number of victims since the beginning of October 2023 to this tragic number. The ministry confirmed that the humanitarian crisis continues amid the tightened Israeli blockade and the shortage of food and medical supplies, calling on the international community and humanitarian organizations for urgent and immediate intervention to deliver essential aid to the sector.

In a related context, the World Food Programme warned on July 27 that a third of Gaza's population had not eaten for days due to the ongoing blockade. Ross Smith, the program's emergency preparedness and response director, stated that the hunger crisis in Gaza has reached unprecedented levels of despair, with a third of the population facing hunger for several consecutive days. He explained that about 100,000 children and women are suffering from acute malnutrition, and that conditions in the sector have become very similar to famine.

Since the beginning of the genocide in October 2023, Israeli occupation crimes, including the starvation of Palestinians, have continued, as Israel tightened its measures on March 2 by closing all crossings to humanitarian, relief, and medical aid, leading to the spread of famine and reaching "catastrophic" levels. Although the occupation allowed some trucks carrying aid to enter since last Sunday, this is not enough, as the sector needs more than 600 trucks daily to save the lives of the population, yet the occupation facilitated their theft and provided protection for it.

These Israeli policies, supported by the United States, have resulted in hundreds of thousands of martyrs and wounded, with more than 9,000 missing, in addition to hundreds of thousands of displaced persons, and famine that has claimed the lives of many innocents, especially children and women, amid the ongoing military and humanitarian escalation in the sector.
