US Secretary of State Marco Rubio described plans by some Western governments to recognize a Palestinian state as "unworkable," claiming that "there will be no Palestinian state without Israel's consent."
Rubio made the remarks in an interview with Fox News on Thursday.
In response to a question: "How does the United States view the decision by Western countries to recognize Palestine?" Rubio replied: "This is a frustrating step for some, and it means nothing."
He affirmed the United States' support for Israel, adding, "None of these countries (planning to recognize Palestine) has the capacity to establish a Palestinian state. There will be no Palestinian state until Israel agrees."
He claimed that the countries intending to recognize Palestine do not know where the Palestinian state will be or who will govern it, saying, "This decision will backfire," as he put it.
