Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas called for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, the immediate entry of food and medical supplies, and the release of tax funds withheld by the Israeli government.
President Abbas said in a televised address to the people of the Gaza Strip, broadcast on Palestine TV on Thursday evening, "What our people in the Gaza Strip are suffering from in terms of siege, starvation, and deprivation of the most basic necessities of life is a crime that cannot be tolerated."
He added, "Our people are facing the greatest humanitarian catastrophe of our time, amid international efforts that have failed to deter the occupiers. How can the world abandon its humanity?"
He continued: "The starvation and killing our people in Gaza are being subjected to in front of aid centers is a stain on the international community's brow if it does not act immediately to stop this genocide." He emphasized that the continuation of this situation constitutes a war crime for which the occupation bears full responsibility.
The US President called for intervention to allow UN agencies to deliver food and medical aid, urging the international community to find immediate ways to deliver hundreds of thousands of tons of humanitarian aid around the Gaza Strip.
President Abbas reiterated his rejection of all forms of displacement, calling for the complete withdrawal of the occupying forces, enabling the State of Palestine to fully assume its responsibilities, assisting our people in the Gaza Strip in returning to their homes, maintaining security, enforcing the rule of law, and embarking on the reconstruction process with Arab and international assistance.
The President stressed that attempts to impose Israeli sovereignty over settlement sites in the West Bank represent a dangerous escalation and undermine our people's rights to an independent and sovereign state. He called on the international community to reject these violations and recognize the State of Palestine.
He called on our people to unite and show solidarity, and to continue their patience, steadfastness, and unity under the banner of the Palestine Liberation Organization, in order to foil all attempts at displacement and liquidation. He emphasized that the independent and sovereign State of Palestine will be embodied on the land of Palestine, thanks to our unity, steadfastness, and adherence to our legitimate rights.
The President saluted our people in the Gaza Strip and in every inch of our homeland, saying, "Your patience and steadfastness is an honor to us all, and will remain the source of our strength and will."
