Dr. Hussam Abu Safia is subjected to brutal torture in occupation prisons.

Attorney Ghadeh Ghanem Qassem said, after visiting Dr. Hussam Abu Safia a few days ago, that her client had lost approximately 40 kilograms, having previously weighed 100 kilograms and now weighing no more than 60 kilograms.

She explained in a post on her Facebook page that he was subjected to a violent assault, with blows to his chest, face, head, and neck, lasting approximately 30 minutes, causing him serious injuries.

She noted that the occupation authorities refused to provide him with the necessary treatment or medication, and refrained from referring him to a specialist doctor despite his dire need for medical care, especially since he suffers from an irregular heartbeat.

She added that Dr. Abu Safia continues to wear his heavy winter clothes despite the poor detention conditions, which include starvation, torture, and solitary confinement. She confirmed that he is being held in an underground cell that is not exposed to sunlight.

Dr. Hussam Abu Safia is a pediatrician from Jabalia camp in Gaza. He was born in 1973. He served as director of Kamal Adwan Hospital during the intense Israeli bombardment of the northern Gaza Strip. He lost his son, Ibrahim, in a direct attack targeting the hospital entrance and was injured by shrapnel from a drone. However, he continued to treat children despite the difficult circumstances.

In December 2024, he was arrested by occupation forces at the hospital gate and transferred to Sde Teiman Prison, where he was subjected to brutal torture, including beatings, electric shocks, and food and sleep deprivation. During his detention, he suffered four broken ribs and lost significant weight.

In March 2025, his administrative detention was extended for six months under the "Unlawful Combatant Law" without trial, and international organizations called for his immediate release, considering his life to be in real danger.
