The World Health Organization announced that approximately 112 Palestinian children have been admitted to hospitals in the Gaza Strip every day for treatment for malnutrition since the beginning of the year, due to the stifling Israeli blockade.
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated in a press statement that the situation in Gaza, which is subjected to intense Israeli attacks and a stifling blockade, "has passed the point of catastrophe."
He added that 17 hospitals out of 36 in the Gaza Strip are partially operating, noting that there is no hospital in northern Gaza or in Rafah in the south.
He noted that 500 people were "killed" while trying to obtain food at humanitarian aid distribution points operated by the United States and Israel, but not by the United Nations.
Ghebreyesus stated that the World Health Organization had "very limited" access to Gaza this week for the first time since March 2.
