The World Health Organization said on Monday that most medical supplies have run out in the Gaza Strip, along with 42% of essential medicines, including painkillers.
"We have reached zero stocks for approximately 64% of medical equipment, 43% of essential medicines, and 42% of vaccines," Hanan Balkhy, WHO Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean, told reporters in Geneva.
She added that 51 WHO aid trucks are waiting on the Gaza border and have not yet received permission to enter the Strip.
"Can you imagine a surgeon treating a broken bone without anesthesia? Intravenous fluids, needles, and bandages are not available in the required quantities," Balkhi said, adding that essential medications such as antibiotics, painkillers, and chronic disease medications are in short supply.
