Britain plans to prosecute 60 individuals for supporting the "Palestine Action" movement.

London police announced on Friday that at least 60 people will face trial in Britain for supporting the recently banned "Palestine Action" movement. The police confirmed that they have made arrangements to investigate and prosecute large numbers of individuals on a weekly basis if necessary.

Since the movement was banned in early July, more than 700 supporters of "Palestine Action" have been arrested, including 522 individuals during a protest by the movement last weekend, marking the highest number of arrests recorded at a single protest in the British capital.

Director of Public Prosecutions Stephen Parkinson noted that the decisions regarding the detainees were a result of the large numbers of participants in recent demonstrations, and more charges are expected in the coming weeks.

Earlier this month, three individuals were charged with offenses under the Terrorism Act for their support of the banned movement, following their arrest at a protest in July. The defendants could face a sentence of up to 6 months in prison.

Home Secretary Yvette Cooper defended the government's decision to ban the movement, asserting that national security and public safety must always be a top priority for the United Kingdom.

The "Palestine Action" movement was established in 2020 and gained prominence through activities it carried out in Britain following Israel's commencement of genocide in Gaza on October 7, 2023. The movement has conducted activities to halt production in factories belonging to companies that deal with the occupation.

The British government banned the movement on July 7, just days after it claimed responsibility for storming an airbase in southern Britain, as a form of response to British military support for Israel in its war on Gaza.

International entities, including the United Nations and Amnesty International, have criticized the ban on the movement, deeming it a violation of the law, and warned that subsequent arrests threaten freedom of expression.
