WHO: Only 17 hospitals partially operating in Gaza Strip

Only 17 out of 36 hospitals in Gaza are providing partial services, the World Health Organization's Director of Global Emergencies, Mike Ryan, said on Friday.

This came during a discussion of the health situation in the Gaza Strip, which is being subjected to a devastating Israeli aggression, in which Ryan participated online.

Ryan said hospitals are at risk due to physical damage, fuel shortages, limited medical supplies and staff shortages.

He noted that attacks on health care services in Gaza, where the health care system has been largely destroyed, continue to be reported.

"The World Health Organization documented 1,098 attacks on health care services in the occupied Palestinian territory between 7 October 2023 and 22 August 2024, 492 of which occurred in Gaza," he said, adding that

"These attacks resulted in 747 deaths and 969 injuries."
